Okay guys, need some advice here....

When I got my GS, it had had some engine bars fitted (see pic)

The problem is that the bolts that fix to the top of the peg hanger have been cross threaded by whatever fool fitted them.:blast

I've tried to sort them with some new ones but they are just not going to tighten right up hard and they are a pig to get aligned each time I remove them (I guess this is why someone cross threaded them in the first place!). I know there is a tube in there, can that be easily removed to either rethread or replace?

The tube ( item 2) just seems to be a brace. It also doubles up as a carrying handle.
You need to loosen the upper subframe threaded rod, remove the 2 lower bolts and lift the subframe until there is clearance to remove the rod.
Loosen the 2 setscrews clamping the rod into the gearbox, unbolt the o/s footrest and move to one side and you should be able to slide the rod out.Mind you dont lose the big washer.
I just happen to have a spare rod in my box of 1150 bits.....

edit. Are you sure the threads are stripped?.A slightly bent subframe can make bolt insertion tricky.

Yup, the bolt just gets VERY tight once it's half way in. I'm tempted to run a tap down there, but I'd rather not weaken the threads.

Couple of questions as you have one to hand...

1.
Are the thread running or do they stop (pocketed).

2.
How many beer tokens would it take to own your 'spare'?:thumb:beer:

What have you got to lose? A s/h replacement is unlikely to cost much from any of the usual suspects, if it goes wrong...

crash bars

You also want take out the top bolt on the rear shock, makes all the difference.Andy:thumb2

Cheers guy's if it was a K I'd be doing it in my sleep, but these GS's don't need the amount of fettling the K's did.
