I've been back to my dealer today, and established I can still alter the spec of my GS Adventure. Delivery is not due until 17 July. I'm trying to decide whether to fork out £195 for the BMW bars. Any thoughts? The Hepco & Becker seem to be popular, and their black colour will match my bike, but it's easier (as well as a bit more expensive!) to get the bars fitted in the factory. Decisions, decisions!

Charles

I fitted H&B bars to replace my BMW Adv bars after a prang in December. They offer better protection & look better (IMO), as well as costing £100, rather than the £450+ for replacing BMW bars (the price you've been quoted is for bars fitted at the factory....). Main reason to go for the H&B is the extra protection, though.

Get the ADV bars if you don't like em flog em ;)
If you change your mind afterwards it's gonna cost.
I wonder why BMW don't attach their crash bars to the gearbox

H&B

... don't need to be removed for servicing.

Just crash tested a BMW set (standard, not the ADV) and altho they did a reasonable job H&B bars would have been better. Needless to say I've replaced the BMW bars with H&B and saved myself a few quid. Black bars on a black bike look cool too.

Hepco & Becker accept no substitute, they are the only ones that wrap around the Cyl heads low enough down to protect them and the cyl heads can be removed for valve clearance adjustment with the bars in place.

The H&P's look good and they look like they will do a good job of protecting the heads but.... With the Adv bars you can put your feet up, easy rider stylie, and cruise in relaxed comfort without burning yer legs!!!

Thanks for the advice - I've decided not to order the BMW bars, but wait until I actually get the bike & see about fitting the Hepco & Becker bars, which I think look much better, especially on a black bike, with black engine.

Charles

Do H&B do them without the funny bit that goes around the lights?

Does anyone have a good picture of them?

Thanks.
