Just ordered myself a R1150GS to replace my R1100R - roll on mid October!!!!

Started looking at add-ons (someone warned me it could be expensive!) and have a question about engine bars. I've looked at the BM bars, Hepco & Becker, Wunderlich and Touratech - which are the best?

Welcome

The answer depends on you.

The most acknowledged ones are the Hepco and Becker ones as they cover the engine heads, do a search under Engine Bars and enjoy a long read.

Others prefer the Adv standard bars or wunderlich for the looks. H+B are the most effective, I have had 3 low speed spills on mine and just the bar is scratched.

HTH, and welcome to the fun factory, I hope you have a bid credit limit on your credit card, the bike is just the start.

Enjoy, Nick

Simon Eassoms bike, from fitting H+B bars.....O yes, I think they are the cheapest as well. £110.00 Motobins.

Motorworks sell them for £105(Hepco & Becker). They work a treat and already saved me money when I dropped the bike the other night in the road. Not very clever taking the bike of the mainstand from the high side with one hand

Few scratches to the bars and rest of bike no probs. So already paid for themselves 50%.

They take about 35 minutes to an hour to fit if your'e carefull.

Cheers

Get Adv bars with the bike (a whole lot cheaper) and they make great leg rests too!

Thanks for the advice so far. The H&B bars seem pretty tempting re price (especially price!) and effectiveness although the Adv and Wunderlich ones look a lot nicer!

Out of interest how do you get the Adv bars cheaper than the other? I thought that they were pretty expensive.

You can't they are £195 if you order an ADV and specify crash
bars.
If you go down to the dealers it'll be around £500
You have to cut down your 1150 bash plate to fit them,
the ADV bash plate is £59 but it don't fit anyway.

I know someone who has some for sale £150 as new

I would've got H+B's but they don't fit my tank.

if you try to fit adv bars to a standard gs you will need an adv sunp gaurd and adv centre stand brackets, the sump gaurd bolts onto them at the back!

Or you could just cut down the GS sump guard,
and drill 4 holes ;)

Love it!

Gauloises,

Love the bike pics. The paintjob is awsome! I darent ask how much dosh youve spent, but how much was the paintjob? How do you find the ADV seat compared to the standard?

Regards

Bonzo

Hi Bonzo
Paint £700
I did the conversion from GS two part seat to the ADV one piece
because it looked better.
But it turned out to be slightly better in the comfort dept ;)
The only downside is that the adv low seat is a tiny bit taller than the gs seat in the low position :(

Gulp!

£700 for a paintjob. God I can imagine how that would go down in our house.
