Have just had the 12K service.. Had some nice new blue(adventure) rocker covers to replace the one that got shagged when i had a run in with a stray dog.
Now the problem is how dow i protect my new covers? Another pair of plastic head covers? (To be fair they did a good job of saving my engine when it went TA TAARS..) but i thought i would see what there was out there in the way of engine bars..
Who has got what and how have you gotten on with them?
Any piccies and or input would be nice..
Also thinking of a Baglux tankbag so if anybody has one for sale in good nick let me know, My bike is Graphitan and i think the Baglux coluor for this bike is "Anthracite" but i my be talking utter bollox again... Mark :0)

Yes Anthracite is the colour to match the Graphitan, as I have one fitted and they look good, also fitted are a set of H & B engine bars, found them easy to fit and well worth the money, they have saved the day a couple of times.

Crusty...

Here's some H&B bars, as you can see, silver finish... they match the engine colour pretty well.
Got them from Motorworks... around £110.

Roll over Crusty!

I asked all and sundry about what crash bars are best. General verdict was that to be properly effective they need to also protect the rear upper cylinder head. If you go over and the bike slides along tank first(if that makes sense) it will roll over on the cylinder head and grind the top rear section. H&B bars as you can see have a tube to protect this and the ADV bars look like they would do the trick.

:moped:

Stantion Head Guards are also worth considering.

Made from heat treated cast aluminium, they're shaped like the standard plastic covers byr extend to cover the top & rear of the rocker cover.

Downside is cost - $200 from the States. Shipping & Duty bump the price up as well.

I'll post a link to the site later this evening.

Go H&B Black

I have Hepco and Becker black bars.. I luckily got them cheapily and new..
Cheaper than £110.. ;)

They are the best IMHO.. the reason i say this is..

1) I have dropped my bike.. whislt getting off it when it was loaded up with kit.. bars saved the engines heads and only a tiny mark on the bars..

2) i have seen an adventure with B*W bars.. go over and the damage caused was to low of engine heads where plastic bits are and they were totals and head still scratched.. ( he was doing about 10mph)..

3) Same again for Wunderrip off.. sorry wunderlich. bars.. agian look functional but not that much protection. and a git to remove and fit from all account, have alook on this site there are a few articles on them..

Black bars are better as, though they may not look as nice as silver ones.. you can easily spray them black again once you have (and you will ) drop the GS.. and scratched them.. some mat black touch up paint and the marsk are gone..

Not so with silver bars.. just try to hide the evidence of a tumble on those.. aint going to happen. Also.. the bung on the end of the B*W adventure bars gets trashed and then with a hole on show the bars look horrid..

Silver wunderlich bars dont look as bad as the B*W after a tumble..

In my opinion the likly hood of dropping the GS is high,, its tall and heavy especially with full fuel tank and panniers + kit strapped on.. and thats just standing around and moving the GS.. if you off roading.. them well.. H&P are the best..

They provide wrapparound cover.. so where if you glance a tree stump or rock, the H&B's will slde past the B*" and Wunderlich will not save the head.... just look at the postioning..

If you really want silver bars then i say go H&B.. but once they go down they will look tatty for the rest of their life as once the stainless is scratched, i dont know a way of getting em out or covering it up without looking like its a repair..

Thats my opinion.. i am sure there are plenty of people who will disagree with me on this.. and some who will agree.. so hope my comments help.. its the joy of the forums..

Rocks..

I've got silver H&B on my Adventure - They're not stainless, just a matt silver colour.

Stainles..

Sorry I may be wrong with my description of them being stainles.. with regards to the H&B silver bars.. but if they go down they mark.. that i am certain of.... sorry for any confusion..

I think the BMW ones are stainless though.. ??
