Engine Bars

I'm replacing my OE Adv bars with Hepco & Becker for a couple of reasons. The first and most important is that they look like they're going to give better protection to the pots. They're the only bars, as far as I know, that will allow the plastic shroud oon the rocker cover to survive even a slow speed spill, by having a tube that wraps around the pot. The OE Adv bars still allow the plastic guard to come into contact with the ground (DAMHIK!), which would necessitate replacing the plastic after each spill, as I don't think they'd afford any protection to the rocker cover after being used oince. ...The second reason was cost. Although I would've stuck with OE if it had offered better protection, the OE bars are (gulp) £388 + VAT, whereas the H&B's are £85 + VAT......

Good info Mike.

I'm replacing my fractured (and leaking oil) right valve cover this week due to a couple of snow covered road tumbles I took recently. I am looking to install engine guards and the Hepco-Becker bars look like a good design.

I'm not certain the prices here in the US will match your stated price for the Hepco-Becker bars. I'll check today.

As an alternative you can have crash bars custom made by Ernie at Overland Solutions in Sheerness I think for around £150 (dont quote me on the price). Have a look at the ones he has on his own 1100 on www.overland-solutions.com as well as other stuff he has made for Chris Scott among others.

Great
Wait 6 months, he forgets who you are then wants your bike for three weeks.

Hepco-Becker lower engine crash bars $325 US and 4 week delivery from A&S Cycles that purchases them from Eurotech.

Hmmmmmm.

A&S Parts guy is trying to get me to buy Wunderlich instead. He "
thinks" they are better then Hepco-Becker. Why? Ambiguous response. Could be delivery and fitment or other issues he wasn't able to disclose.

I checked the overland site. He shows his heavily loaded R1100GS on his main page with engine guards he doesn't list on his BMW products pages. So, I'm not certain if they are a viable option.

Still looking....

I fitted the wunderlich bars, dropped the bike on it's side (v Embarrassing) while turning out of a car park . Scratched the right head.

Dropped it again off road, bent the bars in towards the right head.

I have replaced them with the H&B bars.

2 Resons why H&B are better :

There is protection on the side as well as front.
They are attached at the rear as well as front.

(they also provide a mounting point for my nitrous bottle !)

Do you have a picture of the more "frontal" area ? ie that area in front of where your photograph cuts off ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hey Bandit
Could you get a tiny bit closer to your bike next time you take
a pic, would like to see what silver bars look like ;)

Anyone got the H&B bars with the 42l touratech tank on the 11xx .Just wondering if they would both fit together.

It's an old picture Alex . . . Uncle Gerard has had further modifications since then . . . but it's the best I can do at the moment. Been meaning to take some more pictures for a while.

So has a bulk order been placed yet? I'd be intrested in some silver H+B bars for my Adv.

Rees

bulk order

It looks like there is enough people for discount but not sure of the logistics, because of peoples area's and motoworks don't seem to stock enough bars at one go it don't seem to good.
Motoworks have just had a delivery in today but there are only two sets left, Chris G and myself had to reserve our's last week.
