Which engine bars are better H&B or Touratech?, any opinions or experience's with either, best for value and to fit.
Cheers

Hepco & Becks got my vote, a doddle to fit and wrap around the cylinders... better protection. :thumb

I've decided to go for H&B bars as well, to replace my OE BMW Adventure bars, knackered after a tarmac interface in December. Of course, the H&Bs are £85 + VAT, whereas the BMW bars are £388 + VAT.......

H&B bars for me aswell.Although they are not hard to fit they are harder than the touratechs and BMW but they do offer greater protection and thats what its all about.

bulk buy = discount??

Hi all,

I myself am after a set of the finest H+B bars, I also know that Gavinbell was thinking 'bout a set, so that's three of us- might be worth a bit a a ring round to see if we can get a bit of a discount for quantity.... Any more takers

Colour matching

Have just had my H&B bars blasted and powder coated in a gorgeous shiny silver to match the bike and they look the mutts nuts....will be refitting them this weekend. Job done for just £15 by my local shotblasting company (mind you I've played rugby with the owner for 20 odd years).

silver

Lord Snooty..sandblasted and sparyed?

thought h+b made silver ones..

ive a mandarin gs.. whats the best colour to fit..

silver?

is it the same as the engine etc?

anybody got pics

anybody got pics of the h+b full kit..

ie top and bottom guards..

I have

I have both top and bottom bars in Silver.

Have to say the crash protection benefit of the top bars looks dubious

Colour matching

When I bought my bars the only colour option was black or chrome so maybe they have extended the range to include silver now.

does anyone know

if the upper bars fit the adventure large tank?

just wondering..

think i might get the engine bars in silver..

will give me something to attach my lights to..

:-)

Lord Snooty, my h+b supplier in ireland gave me a choice of black, chrome or silver, so must be available.. we will see..

The main engine bars , I got to protect, and theve done so every time I ride away with the disc lock on but the top bars I got just for cosmetic reasons.I cant see what good theyed do in a crash.

Top & Bottom set on my GS11... note the optional extra 15mm pipe insulation :D

fitting

Paul, on the picture of the H&B bars do they go under the sump at the rear, and front or just pass through between the pipes, I belive the Touratech go under the sump, but don't wrap round the engine.
Just design or does it make them stronger?
Cheers
Les:)

The rears bolt on to the read of the gear box and the front pass accross the front of the motor.

The ones that bolt onto the bottom of the sump are in my oppinion suspect to problems. The mounting places for these are rubber mounted bosses on the bottom of the sump. If you drop the GS chances are the rubbers will shear... if you replace them straight away all is fine but, if you have the miss fortune to drop it again before these are replaced, then in effect the engine bars which mount here are not attached to anything :(

bulk buy

Spoke to Motorworks about a bulk order and they say they will give the UK GS'ers a discount, 10% on £500+, 12% on £1000+
But they require nominated persons to order, orders on fax only and discount only on stock items, no special orders.

Not a bad offer but could be a lot work!

Interesting.

A poll taken on the ADVrider list (primarily US participants) has voted for Wunderlich as the "best" engine crash bar set-up.

What's up with that?

Do the UK/European riders know something with the Hepco-Becker setup or vice-versa?

Enquirying (and leaking right cylinders) minds want to know.

What diameter are the crash bars for either?

All the Best,

Chuck

Chuck,
I think that the wundlic bars though providing good protection and somewhere predrilled to mount ya lights, seem to fold around towards the pots in the event of a heavy spill, wheras the H+B jobbies have the front to rear engine protection and semm to be better supported [and take a few more hits than the wunderlic]

Chuck,

I'm replacing my OE Adv bars with Hepco & Becker for a couple of reasons. The first and most important is that they look like they're going to give better protection to the pots. They're the only bars, as far as I know, that will allow the plastic shroud oon the rocker cover to survive even a slow speed spill, by having a tube that wraps around the pot. The OE Adv bars still allow the plastic guard to come into contact with the ground (DAMHIK!), which would necessitate replacing the plastic after each spill, as I don't think they'd afford any protection to the rocker cover after being used oince. I should point out that I'm approaching this choice from the position of planning a RTW trip, not from expecting to drop my bike regularly whulst commuting:D . A bike that's going RTW will be dropped a lot, during ferry crossings, rough roads etc etc, and I figure it's best to find a solution which will allow this to happen causing as little damage as possible.

The second reason was cost. Although I would've stuck with OE if it had offered better protection, the OE bars are (gulp) £388 + VAT, whereas the H&B's are £85 + VAT......
