engine bars ?

Can anyone give me some advice on engine bars ?
Any good or bad experiences appreciated .
Do the adventure bars fit straight on to normal GS and do they have anywhere on them for attaching lights and that sort of thing ? there seems to be quite a few different ones on the market but i.d like to by the best one s for me first without having to mess about if you know what i mean ! Adventure bars will fit a standard GS, but they are over £400 to buy (compared to £195 as a factory fitted option). I've got Hepco & Becker bars on my 1150. They wrap around the cylinder head and appear to offer the best level of protection in that area. I have yet to test if that is the case though They cost about £110 from Motorworks.

adventure bars don't fit the std gs without bolting on a few brackets (from the adventure)
prefer to fit standard bmw bars - had to many probs with touratech ones running or touching oil return pipe later pipes being plastic i think.

For info I have cut and pasted below my comment from another thread - GSA spec.


The only addition (which has already been mentioned) are the engine protection bars. Like crvfr I managed to lay my GSA down. This was due to a combination of weight, height and petrol spillage - happened at a filling station. The only damage was a slight scratch to the bars and a small scuff to the rocker cover protector as the bike swivelled on it's axis when I tried to pick it up. I dread to think of the damage without the bars.

I know some forum members are against bars but I am certainly gald I purchased mine.

Cut down the sides of the GS bash plate + drill 4 holes

Bars

I fitted Hepco & Becker bars after doing a fair bit of research on this site. They seem to provide the best protection, are one of the cheapest and are fairly easy to fit.

If you do go for them do a search here for the fitting instructions as the ones supplied are in German.

Hepco & Becker are the only ones that actually protect the cyl heads, and you don't have to take 'em off to do the valve clearances.
