Engine 'catching up' under hard braking

Here's a weird one.
I've noticed this a couple of times. If i need to brake hard to a stop, I'll pull the clutch but the engine sounds for a couple of seconds like its 'catching up' is the only way i can describe it. Then it settles and seems fine pulling off again.
Anyone had this or know what it is?

Me too. Haven't a scooby what it was, hasn't happened for over year now

weird. Was thinking along the lines of some sort of fuelling lag caused by a surge of petrol in a full tank perhaps? Seems ridiculous.
