My F650 gs engine seems to cut out randomly when im standing still or when ive just braked and the throttle is closed.... Any ideas why and how to fix this problem?

A few more details would help -has this problem just started, how long have you had the bike etc. but for now a couple of things come to mind.
These bikes are prone to stalling if the correct starting procedure is not followed:Turn the ignition on,wait for the temp light to go out then push the start button with the throttle closed. This last part is important!
Secondly, the idle speed is, in part, governed by the road speed. As you slow down the idle speed is held high (2000rpm or so) and then drops to 1500 once the bike is stationary. This is an anti stall measure.Check if the speedo sensor on the left hand side of the rear wheel is clean.
If the engine cuts out when riding rather than idling the usual cause is loose battery connections.

Tony thanks for the advice, the bike has only got 5k on the clock, we will check the sensor out. I was also told that as the bike is german, that the computer mapping might need to be checked ... any thoughts.

The early 650GSs had problems with stalling and/or surging and the mapping was changed in an attempt to combat it so maybe that is the source of your advice. What year is ally's bike?
I don't think it has anything to do with being German though........:nenau :augie

Its a 2001...... sorry had to get my old man involved as im still learning about the bike and he is Mr Technical lol.

I'm assuming that you haven't had the bike long but as I asked earlier has it always been like this or is it something new?
If you've checked all of the above,i.e. starting procedure, battery connections, speed sensor with no improvement then try a BMS reset.
Remove the seat and unplug the big connector on the front of the BMS unit (see this picture for how to do it).
Wait 15 minutes or so and reconnect it.
Failing all that, take the bike to a dealer and get them to check that you have the correct mapping and software. They should hopefully check it for free but the update will probably cost an hour's labour.
