Dealer just put 15W50 (Castrol Power Race) in my F700 at the service last week.

Just had a look at the receipt... £12 per litre apparently which is about £2 a litre more expensive than the high street so not too bad in my book.

The bikes come with breaking in oil which is (as far as I know) mineral oil and replaced after the first 500 miles. After that, the oil that BMW use in the 800 engines is a semi-synthetic oil.

As far as the break in method in the link above (breaking in on the street), I'm not sure it really differs that much from what BMW tell you. The manual only says not to exceed 5000 RPM for the first 500 miles which is mainly to stop the break-in oil from over heating and breaking down. It doesn't say not to use 100% throttle - in fact, IIRC it says to make sure you use various throttle openings. I do agree with the principal though - giving the engine a bit of stick when breaking it in is good for it in the long run.
