engine warning triangle

Hi guys,

.
My 2005 bike had the engine warning triagle on for 2 days and then it went off by itself. Bikes going in for 1000km service and will keep you up to speed on what they find. This is very interesting and maybe BMW dealers and General distributors should join such sites as they may learn something from all the riders and maybe they can get the technical problems sorted before customer take delivery. Otherwise, great bike, seat a bit uncomfortable and looking forward to going to the desert in December.

With regards the "engine warning triangle", yellow with no text, BMW said that there was no fault stored and that the could find no fault. Hopefully I should have no problem soon. Bike goes much better after the service (1000km) and feels smoother

If you follow Plasmatmatron's advice and you are still getting a red triangle, you've got a problem.

There should be no warning triangle once the self check is complete (actually once the brake part of the self check is complete which is early on in the process).

Okay, I'll give it another go....

Ta! :beerjug:

Hi there, me again.

Had a chat with the Expat here in South Africa, (Guenter) and he explained to me that a yellow traingle indicates a current fault and if this current fault remains there for so many starting cycles, then the triangle changes to red and then the fault is stored in the engine control unit (ECU) and can be recalled using their tester. Knowing this, I feel much better and not so concerned.

Looking forward to getting this baby up and past the 2000km mark so I can start feeling how it handles on the dirt. Want to really run it in so there should be no problems and should get about 50000km before I trade it in on a new one.
