My 1200GS has just run out of warranty and now an annoying little fault seems to have appeared. Twice when turning on the ignition, in the diagnostic cycle of the rider display, it warns of failed headlight. The first time I rode away and then the icon went after about 5 minutes and the headlight came on. Today when the icon appeared I removed the (dipped) bulb and it was clear it was not blown (filament still intact). After about three attempts of totally turning off and removing/reinserting the bulb the warning went. Both beams are working fine.
Anyone else had this problem and know what's the cause? The connections on the bulb holder seem secure and clean.

Thanks in advance

Check your battery is up to scratch and fully charged.

Are you 100% certain that the filament was really ok? Try swapping it out for a new bulb. I don't know what jiggery-pokery is available for the front, but for the taillight bulb, the canbus is smart enough to mask the failure of one of the filaments by running the single remaining filament dimly and then brightly when the brakes are applied, thus simulating a working bulb.

Thanks

Thanks Les and Emoto, both sensible suggestions.
Despite the fact that it does over 50miles every day, I'll put the battery on charge tonight as I've heard a depleted battery can't be fully recharged off the alternator.
Re the canbus keeping a half-dead bulb going I don't think the H7 front bulb has the double coil filament like the rear bulb. Might be wrong though!

Will be keeping any eye it and thanks again.
