Six of us Essex boy Tossers will be up them there mountains this weekend. we are staying in a farm guest house (has three bars :D ) in Dolgellau.
Cant wait :thumb

If you're staying at Dolgellau, you have to ride the B4405 past Tal Y llyn Lake (N52 40.051 W3 54.334) to Tywyn - it must be one of the best roads we took earlier in the Summer. There's a pub at the end of the lake where you can stop off for a shandy and a sandwich while admiring one of the best views in Wales. :thumb

If you have time, stop off at Castell Y Bere (N52 40.029 W3 57.786) which is very impressive, but you have to walk up to the castle ruins to really appreciate how smart it is. Its an easy 10 mins walk, and well worth it.

If you find yourself in nearby Machynlleth with a bit of time to spare, you may want to visit the first and last Welsh parliaments in Welsh history in the town centre and on the A489. I dont have the exact co-ordinates, but if you go to N52 35.446 W3 50.986 just look for a 600 yr old stone building. :thumb It was set up in 1404 by Owain Glyndwr a national hero ever since he rose up against the occupying English who apparently for years had imposed draconian anti-Welsh laws, which stayed in place until the accession to the English throne of Henry VII, a Welshman. :thumb

Don't forget that its traditional for every "Essex boy" to march into every town centre pub on a Saturday night, and to entertain the locals with ancient stories of how the country was occupied, and how badly some of the local peasants were treated. The locals will show their appreciation by buying you drinks for the night :D :D :D

Thanks guys :thumb
And Taff, cheers fro that post, you have reminded me of an incident when I was 16. I had just left school and was working as a plasterer’s labourer. We had a job in Cardiff and were staying in digs. After work we all bimbled into the nearest pub. I was a young looking 16 year as I am now a very young looking 37 year old :D anyhow, up to the bar I go. "Can I have, please sir" I was then bombarded with a load of foreign talk. "Aye" I replied :nenau
"Oh you’re English" the barman said
I stood there completely puzzled.
"You’re in another country now" blurted the barman, He was angry with me, I didn’t know why?
From that moment on, I kept my head down and learnt of the welsh and Scottish history.
Im sure we'll have a great weekend :thumb

Have a look here before you go..

Have a look here before you go..for the "planned" camera van positions for your weekend..
http://www.arrivealive.org.uk/home/ and
http://www.arrivealive.org.uk/schedule/

These are our local "road safety" camera vans and as such arent too well marked.. but they are supposed to anounce the intended monitoring locations before they are deployed, as they are "safety cameras".

Seriously dont let it worry you.. have a great weekend.. lovely roads, have fun but take care..

Thanks for the heads up on the camera sites. Does anyone know of sites for other police areas with similar schedules info.

Bet you didn't take your bike up there

Ah, but there is a Unclassified County Road that gets you part of the way up, well up to 375m above sea level. I know, there's another 500m to go until the top
And, by-jingo, it is a lane and a half.
No go unless on a pogo!
I have included the lane in a Dolgellau trail ride that I lead from time to time. Actually, I am due a trip that way, I'll have to do some planning......

Timpo.
