EWS and yellow triangle

Monday morning off to work, turn key in 12GS ignition- computer does its check then EWS and yellow light, bike won't start - dealer now has bike says it is some ring on the ignition that it is not communicating properly with the key. Should I have just disconnected and reconnected the battery - would this have worked? Anybody else ahave a similiar problem?

There's a transponder in the key that talks to the bike via the little raised ring around the ignition.

It says in the manual to make sure you only have one transponder key anywhere near the sensor (the ring) otherwise the signal can get confused.

If that's not it, it's probably a fault and you'll need to get the dealer to look at it

Disconnecting the battery is unlikely to help, I would think, but it can't hurt if you want to try it.

I've just come back from Morocco after seeing the Banjul (Slimbo) Rally and the other one!!
Broke down near Bordeaux and taken to dealer in Cognac - excellent choice. They traced it to this sensor just under the ignition key. One of the 3 pins had broken.

This was fixed by taking 1 from another bike.
Unfortunately it broke down again the following day. BMW Assistance flew me home. Just waiting for bike now

Anyone else having similar problem?
