My 2006 1200 Adv is starting to make me wish I had hair to pull out!

The EWS warning means that I need 4 or 5 key insertions to gat the thing to start. trying to bring the bike to the dealers today to get it looked at needed more than 20 goes until it would start. The dealers have it now and will check it all out today, I was advised that parts may need to be ordered....

I know the odd EWS fault has appeared here, but has anyone else had problems on this scale and/or got them fixed? Am I right to say that this is a warning of the Engine Management, or does it relate to the immobiliser? I've been told before that having 2 ignition keys on your fob will induce the fault, but I am fairly sure that the second key was 20 miles away today!

Thanks for any help or advice

Patrick.

Its a problem with the ring antenna around the ign switch, just a poor component I would assume, but i had a Jeep once that had a similar problem if I parked near High Voltage cables it used to reprograme itself.

I had the problem with one of my old 1200's, took a few goes to get it started and then the EWS light continued to shine, the antenna was replaced under warrantee.

Same here, it started as an occasional problem, got worse with maybe 10 attempts to start it, finally gave up completely.

Bike recovered very quickly and new antenna fitted. No problem since but dealer tells me it is not an uncommon fault

Same here, three weeks old and EWS stayed on. Stuck at the top of Birk Brow on the way to Whitby.

Recovered to Mill at Sunderland and picked it up the next day. Had a new antenna thingy fitted and had no more problems since.

Technichian said there was no quick fix to bypass the immobiliser soI guess yoy are stuck if there is no dealer handy...............

fix under way

my dealer has confirmed that it is the antenna thingy, but that it will be in their shop until Tuesday!

Looking at the weather, though, a canoe will be more appropriate over the coming days. Appologies to anyone in Sheffield!
