These are also useful. The pinion nose bearing that Pat stripped down was in a scary bad state. Had it collapsed he'd have been looking at a complete new final drive.

The insides of Patz FD. He mentions checking the pinion for play when doing an oil change, but his seemed fine until he opened it up. Oil starvation? BMW fitted a bigger bearing to the Mk2 final drive.
