Had a superb week in the Alps earlier this month where we based ourselves in a chalet in Samoens. This is about 30-45 mins ride from the Mont Blanc Tunnel.

We stayed with Caroline at Chalet Marie Stuart where quite frankly we recieved 5 star treatment for 3 star prices. Caroline is a professional chef and the breakfasts and evening meals were superb. Our bikes lived in her garage and she has lots of local info on places to visit etc... We found Samoens a perfect base for the Chamonix area, we rode into Italy back through the passes to Switzerland, visited Evian etc... superb roads and fantastic views (It is the Alps after all ) yet still nice and quiet in June as its between seasons for them (Skiing & The Main summer rush)

Can't recommend Carolines Chalet high enough, well worth giving her a try if you are looking to stay in the area.

I contacted Caroline today to see if I could book in between the 18-21 August, whilst en-route to Italy (meeting my wife at Venice). Unfortunately, I received a very nice email back saying that as she has no bookings at all that week it would not be viable for me to stay there as the only occupant, the economic downturn has obviously affected tourism in the area as well. She will contact me if she gets any other bookings, so all is not lost.
Is anyone here touring in the area, looking for decent accomodation and want to join me, in what appears to be a very nice location, with good food. Cost is 65 Euro per night half board. :beerjug:

Gadget, I may well be travelling to a mates place in Samoen on 19th Aug, and could do with a bit of company on the ride.

Can you leave earlier? I`m booked on the tunnel on the 17th August.:)

I`m not sure but I think I may be able to travel a day later on the tunnel without any penalty, so that could be an option too.:beerjug:
