I am new to the GSA and BMW have just picked up a 2006 gsa with just over 5000 miles and after many years on Jap four cylinder bikes the gsa is like a tractor ! (current other bike : FJR 1300)
Filled it up and have completed 106 miles and the gauge shows just two bars left .Now don’t get me wrong that’s 106 miles that I have thrashed it to see what its like ,But this cant be right ?
Also in-between 5000/6000 rpm its as if you have got your foot on the back brake and keep letting it of and then back on again !
The bike has just been serviced by bmw Oxford
Any advice would be appreciated

The gauges are notoriously bad for getting out of sync. Next time you fill up, reset the trip and then at next fill up note how much you put back in the tank. You then have an accurate mileage per litre/gallon to work from. You can get the guage reset at the dealer if you wish, but it will cost unless you have a friendly dealer or extended warranty. I just rely on the trip and fill up when I get above 300miles. I was out on a 150 mile run yesterday with a real mix of motorway, A and B roads and varying speeds - got about 11 miles per litre but thats with the new Accelerator module fitted.

Can't help with the lack of power at 5-6k other than it sounds like it needs a tune up. There is a slight hesitancy with mine at 5K but nothing to worry about so yours sounds much worse.

As mentioned, the guages can be a bit dodgy but you should be up at over 300 per tank for the GSA. I would get it checked over at the dealer where you got it because mine was changed FOC when the bike was newish! I get low to mid 40's out of my 06 GSA which is a mixture of riding from thrashing to cruising.

There is a a slight hesitation at around 5k rpm which can be almost 100% cured by new headers and/or and accelerator sold by mavn of this parish. The de catted headers iron it out pretty well and I know a man who just might be able to lay his hands on a set:augie
