exchange gaiter for final drive

Hi there,
the gaiter on my 95 1100gs ABS needs repalcing. Does anybody know the best way forward? what do i have to take apart?
Looks to me that the bearings either side of the cardan shaft have to be opened to get it off???
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Thomas. You've got to remove the final drive, which means removing the paralever pivot pinions. Plenty on here if you search for 'paralever' - I've removed the FD on my 1100 a couple of times - this thread may help: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180313

The secret is to use plenty of heat on the pinions - they have super strength loctite on them. May be worth replacing the paralever bearings while you're at it if they're at all worn.
