Help.
After leaving my 1100 GS warming up (pardon the pun) on choke for a couple of minutes I was a little alarmed to notice that the left side exhaust, from head to connector was glowing a lovely shade of barbeque red.
Any advice other than leave it and claim on fire and theft (only joking).
It,s a bit of a worry.

your mistake was letting it 'warm up' - don't do it, it doesn't need it - do it too much and you can be looking at a new hall sensor £150 + fitting.

fire up the engine and ride the thing... in this weather 'choke' shouldn't be necessary. just a few extra revs as you pull away. :thumb2

Its not really a 'choke' by the way - all it does is add a few revs. use your wrist for that instead.

If you read the book, it says something like (don't warm up) Start and go is the thing to do....

I remember a thread from Advrider a while back where some guys bike caught fire .... he left it warming up a wee bit long :eek. Don't do it - get on a ride away.

Thanks mate, I'll do that in future.

Cheers, don't want that to happen. What a muppet.

Dont worry about it matey. you're not the first to make this mistake - easy enough if you're new to BMW Boxers. The fact that BMW in their wisdom decided it was a good idea to print 'CHOKE' on the lever doesn't help matters. Just bear in mind that it isn't a Choke' it doesn't change the mixture in any way. all it is, is a mini throttle that increases the revs by a few 100 rpms.
