i have an 04 1200 and recently fitted a "Laser duo pipe tech" exhaust.
i have run it with the legal baffle in and the "sport" one, which makes little or no difference in the sound, although you get a cracking "spit" on overrun!
now i have left both baffles out of the pipe giving it a deeper sound. my question is will this make any difference to 1.power 2. fuel consumption. acceleration

It will probably do bugger all until you change the headers to remove the cat.

Not quite sure what the conclusion of the thread is?

Remus headers make the GS much nicer to ride as it much reduces the flatspot making the upper rev range (and power) more accessable. Think that it has a positive effect on mpg - although I've never tested it.

As for peak power - that's not really the point of the GS. If you're after power, the GS is never going to have enough.

Either way, if you want to 'improve' your bike, you need to focus on the headers on the GS, not the can (there are some riders on here who simply take the can off, asuming the cat is retained)

is it possible to remove the cat and leave the original headers, a job for Mark at mhm in Bromley, me thinks.

yep - i believe you can, there's a few posts on here and on advrider on how to do it. Removing the cat is the easy bit, the skilled part is welding the thing back up together again.

The remus headers are a slightly larger diameter, but I bet you'd get 90% of the benefit with just the cat removed.

My other half bought me the BMW Akrapovic can for my birthday and it seems to have smoothed out the fueling and improved the handling.

Im not surprised about the handling, the standard can weighs as much as several hippos......

But I am hoping she will buy me replacement headers for Xmas :augie
