Get them Ceramic coated.

since mine has been to hilltop lot less discolouring. Runs richer / cooler now. Polished them with metal polish to get back to more original state.

As above, mine were bright blue before hill-topped, after the tuning (enrichment) I spent a while cleaning off the old blue with solvol and it never returned, always straw brown after, the proper colour if the fueling is good.

I knew the blue colouring was caused by heat, the surprise is that a "correct" fuel mixture will keep the header below the "bluing" temperature range. I assumed prolonged hard running will also do the blueing thing, I am very happy to here that the "straw colour" will remain as long as the bike is running the correct (slightly rich) fuel mixture.

Totally agree about the Hilltop "straw" colour. These engines leave the factory "too-lean".

(PS I was always curious about Harleys, Crotchrocket ... do you ever ride it? Why on earth?
What enjoyment caould you get from that ?)
