Will it Work??

Anybody who has started their bike with the end can removed will tell you the bike sounds exactly the same!!, in other words it's the cat that makes the bike so quiet not the end can.
The original can, as described in the mod. link, is a fully-functional road can but until the cat is removed it is not being asked to do any "work" so I can't see how this mod. can noticibly changed the exhaust note with the cat in place and in fact if this modded can was fitted to a non-cat bike it might well sound like a bag of s--t!!
If you try it keep us up-dated!! Cheers....................Grizzly

No I am not trying it first! But there is a guy in Advrider who is going to and with a Y piece.

I've ditched the cat and installed a Y piece, and the bike doesnt sound appreciably different....... so maybe the mods coupled with the y piece will make it a bit more fruity?

If memory serves me correct fiddling with the end can will produce a different note even if you drill a few small holes...Check this thread -> Fiddling with std cans

I am no engineer but I think these might be doing different things - have a look at the flow diagram that Keith posted in the thread more recently. Let me know if I am talking pants:D

Cheers

Just recently called in on Geezer and he'd done the mod that day. Sounds a whole lot fruitier but not as good as an aftermarket like my Two Bros or the old Remus Genesis. I wouldn't choose to do the mod myself, having heard the end result.:beerjug:

OOH careful with that - it can end in tears!;)

Just done it, took about an hour to do(then another hour to refit sleeve........bas$%^d ). All polished and ready to go, damn battery is dead so can't tell what it sounds like.

Have to wait til friday to get to motobins for battery, will post follow up later.

Yeh I did it about a week ago I sounds louder than the Remus revolution I've been running. The reason I did it was with all the salt they have been putting on the road recently by the time I get home from work the back of the Bike is totally white with the stuff & is not doing the ally on the Remus any good. I normally run without the cat, a Techlusion, & a K & N filter. I can confirm that the converted can performes as well as the remus, So it you like the look of the standard can but would like a little bit more umph!
it's worth a go I didn't have to many problems converting it, It has a Fruity/farty sort of sound.

which mod did you two guys do? the cutting the internals one or the the drilling the holes one?

Cutting the internals

New battery tomorrow so will advise on 'NOISE' quality then

Opening it up Cutting the internals, then putting it back together again as in the previous link to the ADVrider site by Keith Wilkerson:D

Awful, I don't like it at all. I cannot think of anything good to say about it. I've even put my remus back on the bike and I don't like that either. May be better with cat still in place though.

If anyone would like to try it for themselves, come and get it. (On short term loan)

I think that you've hit the nail on the head. Without the cat, this is probably too loud. It's straight through a provides little to enhance the sound. However, with the cat in place, I think it's an enhancement. I went for a nice long ride this morning with the modified muffler and cat in place and really tuned in a critical ear. The lower pitched OOOOHHH - WAAAAAA note is very nice.

One option to try, when running a Y pipe, might be to fabricate a cylindrical screen wire retainer and pack fiberglass into the rear chamber of the modified muffler. This might immitate the sound created by the factory made straight mufflers. I'd sure try this myself if I was running a Y.
