Thinking of changing the exhaust on my (05) 1150GSA, currently have a Remus with Y piece

But hankering after a shorter one something like a GPR evolution

Have tried a stubby but tooo loud so any one fitted anything but the usual Remus / Akra ??

If you fitted the stubby with the Remus Y piece then no wonder it was too loud. They're usually fitted onto a set of standard headers complete with cat'. Not only would it be too loud, it'd also be much too lean, I suspect.

I'm interested too. Advice? Any?

Actually, sctum, what a crappy, negative post you've made. Never ceases to amaze me how self obsessed members are here.

The negativity is the meaning that you attach to it. It says more about your own interpretation than anything that I wrote.

I think that exhaust cans are much of a muchness on 4-strokes. You could try cutting down a standard can to the length you want, all you really need to ensure is that the entry to the can is the right width for your link pipe. Check that what you do also still meets the can hanger though.

Manufacturers are unlikely to make a stubby can as standard for the GS as it's a limited market but you could also look at getting a system fabricated as then you'll get exactly what you want. Might be expensive though, particularly if you then find it too loud.

Hmmm ...

... what a strange response to what is an entirely accurate post :nenau

+1 The stubby is actuall a great option as long as you have the standard cat still fitted. Benefits are:-
  • Lighter
  • Cheap
  • Allows full left side pannier
  • Improves low rev response
  • Very little additional noise
  • Better exhaust "tone"

Downside is they submerge relatively easily if you are into "fording" so keep the revs well up!

Bought bike with no cat fitted had Y piece and remus already !!

Hence stubby was tried with no cat and as we all know was loud, don't want to fit cat so stubby not an option

Have since added Rapid bike unit so can change fuelling to suit

Have thought about cutting down an original or other can to about half the legth but unsure about sheetmetal skills to make it look ok

When I saw the GPR can it looked just what Iam after but pricy but searching the site there is no mention of it so assume no one has fitted one ??

Looks like I am back to trying to cut one in half then ???

Bryn used to have had stubbies made and sell them, about £20 or there abouts. Fitted straight onto the cat and looked good. Try a search on "stubby".

here's one fitted to cool carbons GS.

I currently have a Y piece fitted to my 03 1150 and have a Simmi can on it which is a left sided race can that needed a bit of shimming to get it to fit as the pipe bore differed slightly and although i like the noise as it is a fair bit louder and deeper but the missus is going nuts at it when she is pillion :blast

She didnt used to mind a race Akrapovic system screaming away on our last little 600 sports bike but having spoiled her with a standard BMW system for a year then now race cans are "too ****ing loud"

The standard can might be going back on but will see

here my solution mated to the std cat:D

Normal size race can........... i was going to stick a Scorpion one on but the bore was waaaay too big and that one was lying around a friends garage and the standard panniers still fit and didnt melt during a test run ;)

As for the wet........... we got about a months worth in half an hour and had a lovely river running down the street about 20 mins before i took that , but normal clearer sky has resumed now :thumb2
