I'm not going to read the link JB but my guess for the single biggest reason why OE is better than the aftermarket units is nothing more than OE financial investment to achieve the end product. Same applies to air filters. £millions are spent in R&D so why would an aftermarket unit, especially universal systems outperform an OE set up?

But it was about Cats and 'through flow restrictors' etc

That seems to be a bit of a blanket statement.........

Sure - if you put in a free-flowing exhaust and air-filter.............. you may in all probability end up with a "hole" in the mid-range, which is why those mods are best complemented by some form of fuel augmentation (Power Commander, Techlusion, Remap).

A blanket statement in so much as the OE is tuned for the bike. Go aftermarket and it doesn't stop there does it, as you correctly point out. Therefore the exhaust isn't unleashing more power.

The bike can also be remapped with a standard system so a bit of a weak argument really.
