I'm checking out a Capanord and a Mutlistrada with skyhook tomorrow to satisfy my curiosity, but that R still rocks my boat at the top of my list: read Sept BIKE mag.

Took the morning off work to get the 1190R 600 mile service done today, it's the 1st opportunity I've had to get it done with staff holidays at work etc., so it's been sat 3 weeks in the garage waiting.
Whilst it was in for service it's had the reflective pad stuck under the seat to help send the heat somewhere else (not sure where) this is definitely not the best solution, I always thought the heat was worse at the top of my inside leg rather than through the seat base itself, so I can only imagine it will make it worse. Anyhow with it been a bit cooler today it's not been that noticeable.
So on the way home I can open the bike up a bit, my goodness it's amazing, so much so I do a detour and end up going well out of my way, so had to ring work and tell them I will have to take the day off instead
ended up riding till its dark.

Absolutely cracking bit of kit. Test ridden the WC, Ducati MS and this recently. The KTM is the best hooligan weapon by far. Nice choice. Out of interest why did you go for the R over the standard better specced bike? The R does look the business though. Had one on a ride out last weekend and it/he was very very fast

I originally went to the KTM dealers to look at the last of the 990 Adventures but when I saw the 1190R sat there and enquired about it, turned out to be their last one available till next year so they worked out a deal for me and I ordered it there and then, no test ride or anything! I've had a lot of KTM's over the years, mainly enduro bikes though and have not had a bad one. I'm drawn more to off road oriented bikes and the R just did it for me much the same the GSA appealed over the standard GS.
Bikes are always going to be a compromise for me as I like to ride varied terrains and there isn't one bike that will both tour and go up a rocky step laden climb like a dedicated machine, the KTM gets a bit nearer to my ideal, like a 150HP EXC!

What's the betting you find the 1190 Adventure too fast?
Too fast...., doubt it, too exciting maybe, this bike has real sparkle, I can't keep off it!
Yeah I know , came off an S1000rr before the GS so the polar opposite , wasn't just the speed , got real bad back ache.

Next month I will have had the 1190R a year, here are a few observations coming back from a 1200 mile round trip to Brittany I have done for the last 3 years. The previous tours have been on a 2010 GSA.
Wind protection: Ace when it's hot, exposed when it's rains.
Performance: KTM's in a different league, although I miss the engine braking of the boxer.
Fuel consumption: Averaging 11.5 miles a litre, the fuel computer stays at the same mileage for 20/30 miles without dropping, then drops in one go, not ideal.
Comfort: The KTM is comfier than the GSA for me, the sheepskin is ace for longer trips, having used it on both bikes but needed Sargent seats on the GSA aswell.
Stability when laden: The GSA wins here, I never experienced any wobbles whatsoever.
Off road: The KTM is far more predictable, manageable and fun on green lanes, probably an unfair comparison to the GSA but that's what I bought both bikes in mind of.
Reliability: The KTM has been back to the dealers only for recalls, that can't be said for my GSA.
Quality: Pretty equal I'd say, nothing has deteriorated on the KTM, although the GSA still looked new after nearly 4 years with absolutely no corrosion anywhere.
Day to day: The chain drive on the KTM is a negative, it does take up more time to clean and lube and when the spray says non fling they are lying!
Overall the KTM is ticking more of my boxes and I have no intention of swapping it anytime soon, the new GSA is not a forward step for me, the only thing that may be interesting is the new Honda Africa Twin but we will have to wait and see where that will be pitched.
