Exped Downmat 7 and 9M

Mine makes no noise at all, nor did the 9 I had before, can't see how it would make noise - or do you have the one with the integral pump.

yes the integral pump models but its not the pump its the material for backing the insulation - makes loads of noise.

if the older models dont make any noise then the materials have changed

Les sells a SNOKAL THINGY and a bag, 4/5 bag fulls of air and BINGO its full.

No of that pumping :thumb

Sounds like the old style Expeds, where the stuff sack is the pump. I think all the new ones have the pump built into the mat.

Mine takes around 20/30 bag fulls from fully compressed, if it's dry, it's best to leave it outside in the sun with valves open to partially inflate while you do other stuff:)

Anyway that's the sort of job to give the missus while I do important things...like checking the guy ropes:D

There are two generations with built-in pumps, mine is the earlier one and it is crap at inflating the mat, I now have the snorkel and bag to inflate but not used yet.

Later (current) model the built-in pump is far more usable. :thumb

I have one of each generation with the internal pump and they are both a bit of a pain to inflate so I now use a small electric pump, I checked with Exped who said high volume low pressure pumps were fine. Confort is good for both Blondie and I and they are fine down to -10 deg C which is the coldest we've personally tested them to. Small pack size is the other bonus. Our ate the 7 cm standard versions.

I have a standard Synth mat 7 and a dlx downmat 9, the synth mat is great for summer/one night stays etc but, for cold weather the downmat cant be bettered.
I use the snorkel and a bag to pump it up as its quicker than the built in pump, with added value that I put my sleeping bag in the bag.
Although I now use the large size thermarest fitted sheet on the downmat and a thermarest down comforter as a sleeping system, its fantastic packs down small

Exped Chair Kit

Just some agreement to previous comment - we have downmat 9's, a medium and large and have found them excellent especially on cold ground. They are noisy and mine failed after about a year - the exit filter ruptured and when I pulled the plug to deflate it the total down contents emptied, under pressure into the tent - very spectacular!
It was replaced with a new one without fuss or question.
We have recently bought the chair kits - basically a slip cover that has 4 aluminium poles to provide rigidity and side straps to allow the back angle to be controlled. Absolutely brilliant - we have just completed 18 days camping through Spain and France and for us, having a comfy seat in or out of the tent has transformed the camping - thoroughly recommended.

Exped

We have two Downmats - the 7s, they are more then enough for this region - camping with sub-zero temp in the yorkshire dales and more than OK
Just recently added the exped chair kit and this is really great piece of Kit.

Got my kit (and all advise) from Les at Traveldri and can only support previously made comments on the quality of advise and service (when things brake down - not the mat :D)

Regards
Koen

For those of you using the chair kits how do you find them from a comfort perspective? We have downmat 7's and I've considered the chair kits as a lighweight seating solution but I just can't imagine effectively being sat at ground level being comfortable.

Thanks Steve

Be aware they make loads of noise, it sounds like crunching snow and can be very annoying depending on how many beers u have had!

I knew mine creaked but could never describe it... Crunching Snow... thats exactly what it sounds like :D

Julie and I have synmat 9 excellent kit,the crackle when turning we solved, (we translates to) Julie took 2 single sheets sewed them into exped covers solves the noise problem. Comfy bed clean sheets, makes camping more bearable.:D

I've got an exped 9dlx and it's great.

Even better when placed on top of my old vango self inflating mat.

Finally i can get a great night's sleep :D

The only problem now is getting up the next morning :blast

Exped 9 a good mattress and can be had for around £90 in the online sales. I was impressed with the comfort levels the inbuilt pump and the relative lightness.

I have a chair kit on mine. It fulfills a number of roles: protects the mat from punctures, stops the noise and can double as a chair :clap

I tend to use it as a chair when I need to travel light. It's also great if it's pouring with rain and you want to sit inside the tent and make a brew. It's a really comfy chair and has the added bonus of being warm as well. You do sit about 3" off the ground but it is comfortable except for getting up and sitting down. It puts you at an ideal height for sitting in a tent, under a lightweight tarp and for cooking with a lightweight stove. :thumb2

If I am going to a static rally, rather than touring, and I'm going to sit around talking and drinking then I prefer my Kermit chair. :rob

I bought a Exped SynMat 7 when I thought I had to pack up for a two up camping holiday. It sounds so compact and light, all the reviews were positive.
In reality its only a bit smaller than my £15.00 camping gas 9" thick massive comfy air bed. Its only a couple of ounces heavier and easy to pack in panniers. The Exped rolls into a round stuff sack is not as easy to pack.
Now sold on e-bay for a small loss, They may be better in - deg conditions but for summer camping not worth the money, and not as comfy as a cheap airbed.

I did see a Exped superlight bed made out of material like a crisp packet. It was super compact and very light for back backing, bet its not as comfy as mine though.

Love my Vango Adventure self inflating 5cm mat !
Very very comfortable, and a lot cheaper than an Exped, just wish I had bought the wider version.
Exped is just one of the many "must have names" Its like people that play Squire Tele`s against their genuine Fender but are far too embarrassed to say that its actually better !
Especially when they have forked out a whole load of dosh !!!
