So I decided to splash out on an exped tarp. Ordered one off d'internet. Arrived yesterday. Weighs nothing :D but there's something missing. I assumed :blast it would come with a set of poles?:nenau No such luck - just an expensive sheet of material with loops attached. Where can I get poles for it, and how many do I need (2?). I plan to use it above the tent to provide a cooking / shelter area.

This is going to be the year of camping in comfort:thumb

tarp pole n

hi orla , you need 2, if some ones got an old tent thats no good any more rob the poles off that:green gri or you could try charles camping in blesso i think they sell em separate, actualy i,ll drop in an ask tommorow if you like, or try any army surplus store :thumb2

Thanks Flash. Most tent poles are much longer than Id need right? So I'd need to cut them and re-tie the bungee cord?

If its not too much bother - then Id appreciate it:thumb We're not actually going camping till April, but getting all the gear upgraded now.
I'll be looking for an idea on low weight/bulk foldable chairs aswell.

The elasticated type tent poles are not likely to be strong enough for what you want.

Try a camping/caravanning shop. I have a selection of awning type poles, the half inch diameter, type.

Telescopic poles..

Hi Orla,
I am in the process of trying to sort some aluminium tarp poles with a potential supplier. The exped tarps are designed to be used with walking poles in most cases. Which makes for a pretty simple low shelter.

But these poles I am trying to sort prices for at the moment, come nested inside each other and so nicely compact, just trying to sort prices for them.

I am also trying to sort a supply of swedish military grade tarps, which are very tough and still light weight, but its a slow progress.

Astandard tent poles unless tensioned in some way tend to be too flexible to support a tarp free standing. I have and arc tarp and they has two pole sleeves built into it and tentioning lines.

Will let you know if i have any success with these poles..

John

Good man John, dont know why I didnt think to ask you :blast
Looks like you'll be bringing a few pressies to Ruthin for me then in April!
