Explorer is selling well!!

.... I'm one of those people criticised for buying a 1200GSA because I don't take it off road and never had any intention of doing so.

This really is my last post on this thread - and only because it was probably this comment, in response to your post about the influence of LWR on the GS market

It's kind of sad that the GSA is now, for many, just a status symbol - a two-wheeled version of the Chelsea Tractor - something to be polished and garaged next to the Range Rover.

that sparked the comment that started the whole sorry argument.

I'll stand by my comment. It was aimed at people who buy a GSA as the latest 'must have' accessory, with absolutely no intention of riding it anywhere further than the local gastro pub! (Yes, I do actually know people like that.)

I don't think anyone has actually criticised GS owners who don't ride their bikes off-road. I certainly didn't intend to. While you could be forgiven for taking that inference, my argument with Burpster was about whether or not the GS - and thence the Explorer - was capable of being driven off-road, rather than whether all GS owners should ride them off-road.

Anyway, enough said. :beerjug:

Indeed, op close the thread, it's deteriorated into a slanging match which is utterly pointless, everyone go and have a beer and have an early night with your significant others...

TEX ordered on Wednesday, delivery should be on the 18th..really looking forward to a complete change of machine :thumb

I am a TEST mule

Anybody got the new explorer and would like to trial a rear crud for me? I`d buy one if i wasn`t saving up for the new 1250..........

Conditions:

1. Take lots of photo`s and send them to me (I love all my babies).
2. You get to keep the rear crud if you want it (it may look good enough to keep).

For those who don`t know me I tend to make the odd modest farkle for us GS boys. Its not an entirely commercial venture as some kindly folk may point out so please don`t think its an elaborate scam - just a drunk fool who charges a fair price for hand finished gear which he thinks a lot of :D

Anyone interested them please PM me!

Regards,

mark

Mark very kindly sent a pre-production "Crud Catcher" for me to try, The first thing is if you appreciate quality then you will be more than pleased with this, I have seen a lot of laser cut bits around recently, and this has to be one of the best, the "Triumph" is perfect, really crisp and the overall finish is of a quality product. This is certainly not some bloke with a nail file knocking out a bit of old tin, it's British workman-ship at it's best.

As it's pre-production the holes didn't quite line up, but with a bit of fiddling it went on in minutes, Mark is aware of this and has it sorted, so it will be a two minute fit,

Best bit of all, it works,

Nice work Mark, :bow:bow

I love "Triumph" the mystique of the name, the British heritage, and am very glad they are still going along nicely. My other bike is a T100 Bonneville and I just love it and the crowds it pulls here in Malaysia.

there are a couple of things I don"t like about the modern Triumph Brand, one they are built down to a price, and there is way to much plastic and crap on them. Look at the simple line of a 60's or 70's Triumph... the new triumphs are a bit lost for identity imho.

The new 1200 is in the local showroom hear, and whilst I'm sure it will be a great bike to ride as a tourer (like my GS is), I for one would not like to loose the simple layout of the BMW for the inaccessibility of the Triumph 3. To get at any part of the engine looks to entail a lot of cosmetic surgery.

Time will tell on the sales, and another good bike out there is always welcome. But someone needs to take this "GS" concept to another level, instead imitating, it needs to be simple, back to basics, preferably a twin, and a true go anywhere bike.

I agree about the copying bit...... I think the fact that Triumph labelled the Explorer as 'A GS beater' is what caused all the hoo ha in the first place. The GS is a great bike, and I can see myself getting another one when I've had enough of the Explorer, which I haven't yet .

The Explorer is different to the GS. I like the bells and whistles on it, such as the cruise control and traction control ... I liked the ESA on the last GS I had too :) The Explorer is at least as comfortable as the GS ( for me) and I don't do the off road thing , so I'm not losing out any there.

When I had the 1200 GS SE I recall wondering what it would be like if you could shoe-horn a K12S engine into it..... The Explorer kind of answers that question.

Each to their own :beerjug:

Each to their own indeed

Without wanting to sound like Kofi Anan, who gives a fuck what you ride as long as you like it and it youre out there doing your thang

Im lucky that I have a choice, i love my GSA but equally like hoonong about on my KTM SM.

I wave at everyone , regardless of cc and or badge, I remember years ago being on a shitty heap of crap once (not ex wife), and a proper big bike waved at me, it made my year :)

Theres enough cocksuckers out there trying to ruin things for us anyway, ride and let ride I say.

(Oh and Ive never cleaned and masturbated over a bike ever, come to think of it Ive never even cleaned one) :)
