Explorer is selling well!!

I am test riding the explorer for the 2nd time this weekend. I reckon I could be heading to triumph very soon! How are people getting on with theirs?

Love mine, does everything the GS did but with a stonking engine, 59mpg on a run to Barmouth on Tuesday.

Like the adventure style bike hence the GS in 2007 just fancied something different, 4000 miles and no regrets.

Speak as you find.

Well if it is selling well, no buggers riding them, well not in France , Germany, Italy or Switzerland because I've just done 2k in the last 11 days Through the alps and all the traditional top biking roads and haven't seen a single one!! :nenau Seen 2 cross dressers, 1 tenererere. A few Ktm's and multi stradas,I stopped counting Gs 's at about 95 and that was nearly a week ago! So can't see BMW are too worried. Because as usual the BM has been superb:bow

im v tempted. Bored of GS world so want something different. Test on Mon/Tue.

we will see - if not its a CT

Saw several end of June around the alps a quite a few t800 s too, well outnumbered by GS though but after 10 years plus of top sales they should be, but the TEX had only been out a few weeks
Also saw 2 cross dressers
Give em time I loved my GS and t800 I even sorta love my cx 500 hack each to their own
It will be interesting to count the sales of the water cooled GS vs the TEX as the true comparison to see if BMW will be ' worried' :pullface

I don't think BMW need worry at all. Yes, at last there's more competition, but BMW are the market leaders without doubt. Most people who buy the rivals bikes are those who most likely wouldn't have bought a GS anyway, because it's a BMW. There will be those former GS owners who will have jumped ship because of the poor finish/poor reliability etc concerns that they may have experienced or possibly wanted to try something different or in the Explorer's case, wanted a British product as well. It really doesn't matter in the greater scheme of things and as long as I (or you) am happy with what we own right now, who really gives a stuff ?

Explorers selling well?

That's because Triumph are 'buying' them so as far as sales figures go they're outselling the rivals

Watch this space .... see how many second hand ones 'emerge' and the low prices they will command :nenau

:beerjug:

No, just a thought that occurred to me ;)

What would I be knowing :rob

:beerjug:

Well I don't know, but I suppose Triumph would see that as either a slur or an admission that the Explorer isn't doing as well as they want. But do most manufacturers (or dealers to be more precise) not manipulate their selling figures to achieve an end of month bonus or something ? Still, it would be quite a scoop if it could be proven that Triumph, the manufacturer, were buying their own bikes and selling possibly at a loss to achieve a good sales figure. Maybe you should apply to work for MCN. :D

Yep, there's a few popping up at BMW dealers now.:rob:D

The major car manufacturers have been doing this for years.

The current success of the gs, sales wise, comes down to one very successful tv programme and good advertising on the back of it. It's a great bike but the general conscience of the buying public would not have been raised were it not for those two things that set the ball rolling and that applies to all 'adventure' bikes.

Don't agree. I bought my 1200GS before the program came out and for the first time in my life found myself a leader of fashion :rob. Anyway, not being the sort to spend money easily all my other bikes had been bought after long debates and havering. Not the 1200GS - I took the demo out from Bath Road Motorcycles for an afternoon's demo ride ( they were a great dealer) came back after an hour and bought one there and then. Only ever done that twice in my life - the second beiung to buy an Elise R.

Its quite the best general purpose bike I have ever had which is why after binning it and a few years lay off, I tried all the alternatives and bought another GS. It didnt need Charlie B. Its simply a classic design that really stands out as exceptional. Just occasionally a manufacturer hits the sweet spot.

2 blokes at work have swapped GS's for explorers. They've both had lots of minor issues with them, latest being side stand bolt had fractured and the stand just fell off as he flicked it out to park:nenau

Not knocking the triumph, it's a good bike but it seems all new bikes have issues, not just BMWs. I think the new W/C GS will outshine the triumph in every area but I really do hope they've sorted the QC issues that have affected reliability for some.
