I bought an Exp because it is a much better bike than the current crop of GS's.....

I am test riding the explorer for the 2nd time this weekend. I reckon I could be heading to triumph very soon! How are people getting on with theirs?

Seen 2 cross dressers, 1 tenererere. A few Ktm's and multi stradas,I stopped counting Gs 's at about 95 and that was nearly a week ago! So can't see BMW are too worried. Because as usual the BM has been superb
Well if it is selling well, no buggers riding them, well not in France , Germany, Italy or Switzerland because I've just done 2k in the last 11 days Through the alps and all the traditional top biking roads and haven't seen a single one!!Seen 2 cross dressers, 1 tenererere. It will be interesting to count the sales of the water cooled GS vs the TEX as the true comparison to see if BMW will be ' worried'![]()

Explorers selling well?
Watch this space .... see how many second hand ones 'emerge' and the low prices they will command![]()
Explorers selling well?
That's because Triumph are 'buying' them so as far as sales figures go they're outselling the rivals![]()
Can you back that up ?

No, just a thought that occurred to me
What would I be knowing

Well I don't know, but I suppose Triumph would see that as either a slur or an admission that the Explorer isn't doing as well as they want. But do most manufacturers (or dealers to be more precise) not manipulate their selling figures to achieve an end of month bonus or something ? Still, it would be quite a scoop if it could be proven that Triumph, the manufacturer, were buying their own bikes and selling possibly at a loss to achieve a good sales figure.
The current success of the gs, sales wise, comes down to one very successful tv programme and good advertising on the back of it. It's a great bike but the general conscience of the buying public would not have been raised were it not for those two things that set the ball rolling and that applies to all 'adventure' bikes.
. Anyway, not being the sort to spend money easily all my other bikes had been bought after long debates and havering. Not the 1200GS - I took the demo out from Bath Road Motorcycles for an afternoon's demo ride ( they were a great dealer) came back after an hour and bought one there and then. Only ever done that twice in my life - the second beiung to buy an Elise R.Don't agree. I bought my 1200GS before the program came out and for the first time in my life found myself a leader of fashion. Its quite the best general purpose bike I have ever had which is why after binning it and a few years lay off, I tried all the alternatives and bought another GS. It didnt need Charlie B. Its simply a classic design that really stands out as exceptional. Just occasionally a manufacturer hits the sweet spot.
