Explorer is selling well!!

Talkin bollocks all European & US Bonnies built in Hinckley,

I loved my GS1200 but the explorer is a better bike overall IMHO, however I will try out the GS WC and buy it if it suits me better will change. I like KTM adventure but not the multistada, but got on best with the TEX. In fact there are few 'bad bikes' out there

As for the knocking of triumph build quality I have had 3 triumphs in the last 15 years and never had an issue, note I carried a spare FPC with my GS and the paint flaked at the front!

Best build quality my p reg VFR

I have a loyalty to my dealer but not to a brand(got my all my bikes from one dealer in last 15 years), though I like to buy a British bike if it ticks my boxes, and if I could afford a second bike it would be a street triple.

Once they start putting a 32litre tank on the xc I may be tempted. Local dealer came out with an interesting one, if you order a explorer rather than buy from stock you can get it in any current triumph colour !
Would be nice in a bright red or orange.
Mind you it would need a grand put aside for touratech or sw motech/trax luggage

You can certainly get deals on them no, my mate picked one up new with extra's for under £10k, he tested a Super Ten but the Ex Demo Yamaha was more than the brand new Triumph.

I think they were probably keen to shift the remaining 2012 bikes and get them on 2012's sales figures, they really wanted to do a deal on the bike.

I must admit it looks a nice enough bike, but the suspension is very basic and you can see where they have cut a few corners, but if it proves reliable it is a pretty good value bike IMO.

According to the Explorer XC designer at last years Triumph LIVE the XC will not be getting a bigger fuel tank because having tried one full of fuel it made the bike "unstable"

Triumph have always done different colours on their bikes but for employees only. The only stipulation was that it had to be a colour that either they were currently using on a different model or one that they had used in the past

That's the reason why I've ended up with probably the worlds only Caspian Blue Thunderbird Sport :D

I hadn't heard that they had extended this offer to paying customers?

Apparently they have already got a diablo red explorer for a customer. That said no big tank being fitted no sale to me.

Difference on my 1150gs between standard and large tank was the ease of doing 300 miles plus in one go or less than 200 on the standard one and being in a panic to find fuel.
Same on the 1200, having had bikes with the larger capacity there is no way I will go back to a tourer with less than 180 miles range.
Its the reason I did not by a super tenere and why I will not be buying an Explorer or a new r1200 gs lc until an Adventure model comes out.
Typically with the bigger tank the journey from the channel ports to say Stuttgart takes 3/4 hours less due to less stops and is much more relaxing

Why don't all you wannabe's buy a car?

I made India on a 100 mile tank range.

Bunch of woofters the lot of you.

:D

Big tank for me everytime. My ride's tend to be about 300 miles and I prefer to fill up once in the morning and then I can stop for a break wherever I want instead of a petrol station forecourt. I'm a big guy so can handle the extra weight easily. Each to their own.

It's nothing to do with tank range - it's just that fat people prefer a bigger bike 'cos it makes them look thinner :D

Bit off the point, but Guzzi managed to increase the tank capacity on the Stelvio NTX to 32 litres without altering the lines of the bike by utilising the spare space around the tank under the side covers.
Looking at the Explorer there is a great deal of free space under the tank side covers that could be utilised and bearing in mind that 40% of BMW R1200GS sales are Adventure models Triumph are missing an opportunity.
As for the Adventure making you look thinner , don't need it to and I also have no desire to go to India ( whether it be on a bike with 100 mile range,my GSA with 350 miles range or in my car that has 700 miles range).
I do full time shift work and on my holidays would rather get to the Alps without visiting a Belgium/ German petrol station every couple of hours !

Getting around 220 miles to a tank on mine. Even on the motorway that's 3 hours and I'll be needing to stop and stretch my legs and probably have a leak by then too. Can't imagine needing to go further at a time...
