I'm thinking about buying an external hard drive, for backing up. Decent size 160 GB ish. Any recommendations ?

Cheers

Pretty much anything you can find on Amazon. Just search for "160gb usb" on www.amazon.co.uk

I have a 160GB Iomega USB2 drive which I am very happy with. I also have a 200GB drive which I am going to put into a generic USB2 enclosure whenever I get the chance.

One tip I would give is to make sure that your computer has USB2.0. If it doesn't then consider buying an interface card as the transfer rate at USB1.1 speeds is terrible.

regards,

Mike

If you're feeling flush...

The online PCWorld has 320mb Toshiba external drives for £114. That's seriously good value for that size...

I have used Savastore a few times and have found their service to be pretty good.

They have a 250GB USB2 external HD for £85 here

Wow.....You guys don't mess about....four replies in eleven minutes :clap

Plenty to go on there, much appreciated

Thank you all

I got a 250 Maxtor HD from Amazon a few months ago I was looking at the Lacie brand but I found lots of reports of them failing without warning.

I have had no problems with the Maxtor and would recommend it. :thumb

Worth going for FireWire if your PC supports it too, as it speeds up the transfer times.
