hello everyone - a schoolboy question......
(i have searched the forums and read quite a lot of posts but none the less.....)

i do a lot of night time riding - i like to stay off motorways where possible and am fed up with the lights on me (2005) 1200 gs.... they're rubbish! (i've had £4000 suzukis with better headlights.....)

i don't care how much they cost - i just want to be able to go at a decent pace on un-lit roads at night time.......i need (want!) the brightest extra lights i can get............

which lights do i buy?

or

or

anything else?

many thanks for your help . . . . .

PIAA 001, PIAA002, Hella FF50.

Including light bar, under £200 for any of them. A set of 001's and a set of 002's will cost about £95 delivered from this guy, lightbar about £90 delivered from MigSel.

Looks like your going for top end jobs. Ive just fitted Hella FF50 and they make a hell of difference. Cheap but effective and suit me. Great on A and B roads

Take Wizards advice and get the lightbar from Migsel

look at the piaa on normans site and you can see how close they are to the indicators with another bar, Migsels bar drops and is a top quality bit of kit so dont be tempted to skimp on that. :)

another :thumb for the ff50 and the Migsel bar (mine's on an 1150) tried and tested. It's saved me from a few 'moments' at night and can't praise them highly enough. You might want to sound out BTBR as he's done fittings for dozens if not hundreds of these by now. Do a search and I'll be surprised if you find a single complaint against him (apart from his over zealousness with a polishing cloth :) )

I got my Hellas off BTBR but he wont do fitting for 1200s.
Its a real shame because I saw his workshop and clearly he knows his onions and then some. Really helpful bloke to boot.

The fitting itself for the 1200 is quite straightforward and theres plenty of wiring diagrams etc if you do a search.

Wunderlich floaters. Look good and excellent light pattern and brightness. Around £140 delivered

Shameless plug

I just happen to be auctioning a wiring kit (including light brackets) for the 1200; everything you need except the lights. Look in the auction bit of the FS&W section.

Hella FF50's and Micro DE on a Migsel Bar. Best of all worlds.

I'd highly recommend the combination of bar and lights Wizard mentioned, the Migsel bar is a quality piece of kit and well known on this site, the PIAA maybe not as much but they are beautifully made and come complete with a full wiring loom, relay and switches.

I use the 002's as my running lights and the 001's as high beam.

Both sets are connected directly to the bikes can bus using relays with no problems.

The 002's come with 35W high performance bullbs equivelent to 70W while the 001's are 55w high performance equivelent to 110w.

Purchasing them from the US makes a massive saving over UK prices and for prformance, quality and value for money they are just unbeatable. :thumb

i really like that set up of yours, trying to find the 001's 55/110w and cant find them anywhere. The 002's are no problem just now,

Trev

Just had a look on the Snappy Lights website and they are not showing the 001's anymore.

As far as I am aware the 001 did not get imported into the UK so could be hard to find a set.

Had a quick check on Google and found a few sets in the US but at silly money compared to Snappy Lights, best thing would be to mail them and see if they have any left.

Cheers,

gave him a shout there and he says he doesnt know if/when he might get them back in again :( . I reckon the hella ff50's are along similar lines but i can't find specs to tell me if they high performance like the 001's.

Will keep looking for now, there is probably something with similar spec out there :thumb

Sure can Michel, if you want any others or the full size version of this one let me know. :thumb
Cool, if you can send me a few more, please do.
Can you add the specs of the lights in the message please?
They don't need to be high resolution, 800x600 will do.
Thanks!

Adjust the standard lights properly?

:nenau

Most bikes and cars come set up with the dip cut-off about 10 metres in front.
Your dip should be 2 degress below horizontal which equates to 1 course of bricks if you park 25 yards from a wall, sat on your bike.

Adjustment: The cheapest upgrade
