So I was in Heathrow on Monday morning flying back to Frankfurt for a fun week of learning, and I made the mistake of walking into the Dixons:nono

I walked out about 2 mins later, £300 lighter and and Ipod touch, JBL speakers and travel charger.

THE F*ING TOUCH SCREEN DOES NOT WORK THROUGH GLOVES!

so having a sexy touch screen Ipod in the map pocket of my tank bag is a complete blowout!

What to do?

I was thinking of keeping it and buying a remote and strapping to handlebar for track and volume, but not sure if thats too much faffing around for an expensive Player not fit for purpose.

I also have a problem with the packaged JBL speakers, which humm constantly with interference from the touch screen (changes sound when touching the screen).

Does anyone have experience with this new Ipod, or should I just get my money back and spend the money on the sounds of a new silencer Can and old MP3 player?

sorry

Ipods do need a nice warm human hand. There may be a remote for this ipod- don't know. My old white one had one and , of course, it will not fit the new one . For on-the-road use I create playlists that run roughly for as long until refuelling takes place! - hit play then put in my jacket.
BTW- caution- Ipods do not the cold- they will jam up if chilled and are not waterproof either-
So I keep mine nice and cosy inside a waterproof jacket.

However as for sound quality, I have been all over plugging my ipod in to listen to sound from a large amount of these small portable ones and this is the best I have found. see piccy
Runs off one AA battery
Has a power on/off sliding switch at back as well as a USB power feed 5v, an input socket and a volume wheel/
It is called the Sound Traveller - brilliant for travel

Or the In Motion player for home.

Indeed - but you can hack it to take all the iPhone apps - so you can get mobile mail and lots of other goodies... Like mine :D

I wasa given an IPod Classic 80GB by my boss yesterday as an award for some work I did in September that went down very well. Lovely bit of gear too. Funn thing is though is that I have just bought a Philips 60GB MP3 player so one will be up for sale very soon and as my IPod is engraved with my name it will be the philips... watch this space if anyone eants a bargain - brand new in its box:augie

Have Fun

Excelent hijack:augie

I've seen (and will try) the jailbrake app, but what iphone apps make this thing worth £230 if I decide to fudge it to work on the bike?

although the dullards at the beeb haven't got their iPlayer to download to macs yet, the iPod Touch will stream iPlayer content rather nicely via wi-fi :thumb2
