Hello, boys. I've got BMW F650 GS Dakar 2001. I'm really happy with it. But I have a problem with my left mirror on high speed (70mph+). So the problem is that the mirror fold and i have to adjust it very ofter while I'm riding (pretty dangerous). So after investigating at f650.com I found that many guys have this problem with the mirrors. Could your recommend me mirrors (and where can find them here in UK) that will fit my bike? I heard that the screw of the BMW is not standard as the average motorbike? I want to try other brand, because I've heard that this is design issue. Many rider changed their mirrors with new pairs and again have this problem. Thanks lads.

When you say it folds, is it the mirror that folds or the whole mirror stalk assembly.

The BM system uses a seperate insert to hold the mirror in place (cheaper to relace than the whole mirror (in theory!!!)). This can be tightened to stop the mirror assembly from folding back.

As for the mirror itself folding???? Mine will only allow for a small adjustment so it won't fold back all the way, so I can't help sorry.

My 01 Dakar does the same!

No problems for me either on my 00 F650GS, but again its not a Dakar, but aren't the mirrors the same?

I suppose that are the same. So I'm thinking what to do. I don't want to use any glue to fix it. To buy new generic left mirror or new pair from Touratech? I've heard that some people have changed 2-3 pair with BMW mirrors and still have this problem (left or right mirror). I wrote to one of the guys in Touratech to ask him in details about this mirrors.

It's odd to see this thread because after having my 2002 Dakar for a couple of years and done a reasonable amount of off-roading and even taken it to Iceland with no mirror problems, yesterday on a sedate bimble around Bedfordshire's roads the RH one kept dropping down. I haven't investigated the cause or cures yet.

Heat up the ball socket

I saw the same problem on the Chain Gang site. One recommendation (apparently implemented) was to heat the plastic ball socket (presumably with a hot air device ands not naked flame !) and then use a circlip to tighten up the ball socket.
Not tried it yet on mine (93 Dakar with the same problem too) but will when I get time.
