Hi one and all. Any answers to this problem would be of great help please.
I have this bike which has been laid up for about 6 months, requiring some new parts which still have to get from the UK. I have installed a new battery as old one was not holding charge, so come to start it up and nothing happens except one click is heard fromthe starter relay. On the dash board all the lights come on except the oil light, it remains off.
I do not know if its the starter relay, or the start motor or what. The parts I am waiting to get should have no bearing on this as one is a new fan for the cooling, and a new gasket for the fuel under the seat.
So really not sure what the problem is.
Many thanks Ken Hunt

Put it in gear and try rolling the bike forward to check the engine turns also it may be the starter motor playing up and could work after being rotated.

If the engine turns, try shorting across the starter relay with a spanner whilst the ignition's on. If that turns the engine over then it's the relay at fault.

Ok many thanks for that, will give it a try when I can, as right now we are awaiting a typhoon to pass on through here, its track changed over night making it this direction. Will let you know what I find. Ken.

Hi Ken
if you can hear the click from the starter realay it is more than likely the starter has struck as has already been sugested, if there is no click when you press the starter then you could have an issue with the side stand switch or gear/clutch switch these can stop the bike turning over.

you also need to make sure the battery is giving a solid 12V when on load. or you will just get the click.

a multimeter will come in handy for fault finding

regards
Gren

Hi thanks for your info and sorry was not able to reply back till now, we had a bad typhoon come through last 15th July and wiped out the power supply every where in the Province, we only just got back power late last night. Many other places still have none.
No the kill switch is fully on. Not had much chance to look any more at the bike, will let you know if it improves. Thanks, Ken Hunt

Hi thanks for your reply, I am sorry that I have not been able to respond till now. We had a very bad typhoon that came through here on the 15th and wiped out all the power network, telephones, and Internet coverage in the Province. Its only late last night that power was restored to our area, there is many other places still without and looking till November before they get theirs.
The battery was fully charged and new, still one click and nothing else. Tried to see if the start moter will turn when in gear seems to be OK, just will not fire up. I have to look at it more closely when I can and check every where else. Will advise if and when I find the problem. Many thanks, Ken Hunt.

Hi there, regards to the start motor of this bike, is there any way you can see if it turns over once taken off the bike, as there only seems to be one lead from the battery which is positive so how can you check to see it turns over? The battery is giving a full load.
