Hi To All just giving everyone a heads up.

I purchased my F650GS last September on the 58 plate (from Cannon Braintree, and veryu pleased with them)

I have not had any recalls before I have had the first minor service and 6000 mile service the bike is currently 5 miles off of 9000 trouble free miles (with exeption of changing a noisey chain before any sprocket wear)

Just giving a heads up as I have received a letter today from cannonservice department stating that BMW have advised them to replace the fuel level sensor, the front wheel spindel, a radiator hose, and bolts on the front and rear hubs and that there is no charge for the work.

they have also kindly stated that if i no longer own the bike to pass the letter on to new owner or inform them so that they can do it!

so i'm,

1. giving everyone a heads up if they have not received notification to contact the dealer.

2. If any one else knows of something that may have been missed could they let me know ? so when i put my bike into them I can get all the update work done at the same time. (ive heard people mention software problembs!)

When mine was done, there was also an update to the ECU to stop the occasional engine cutting out problem.
That apart, only the ones you mention above.
 
All these recall's on recent model bikes must be costing BMW a fortune.

Had my 2008 R1200GS since July and it's had 3 recalls (brake line, fuel pump and now alternator suppressor). I had hoped design of the Mk11 1200GS would have sorted out the isseus from the previous version.

I think my previous BMW (a 2005 R1200ST) only had the one recall issue whereas I cannot recall any on my R1100S.

Whilst it's great that these are all being sorted in the warranty period, it does not inspire confidence regarding long & trouble free riding in years to come. The marques reputation for quality & reliability seems a distant memory :rob.
 
Yup, had mine done a couple of months back too, even though the bike hadn't suffered any of the problems they were trying to fix.
 
I had my fuel sensor 'fixed' when i went for a service a few months ago. Since then it has been next to useless. First of all it was over estimating how much fuel I had left and now it under estimates, it tells me I have nearly run out of fuel at 140 miles and when I fuel up I can only fit 11 litres in!
It has been back three times to Coopers and each time they say they have fixed it and each time it is the same.
It is not the end of the world as it still runs fine and does the job, but my issue is that I have paid for a trip computer and I expect it to work.:nenau

I would rather have a pessimistic fuel sensor than an optimistic one. The optimistic one dumped me at the side of the road 3 times. When the orange light comes on now I know for a fact that there are 3 litres left. Personally that suits me fine. I'd rather have that scenario than thinking I have 50 miles worth of fuel and then it conks out on me :blast
 
I think it's an absolute 'must' to run your bike dry (goes without saying that you need a full 5L fuel can with you at the same time though ..:blast ) to see exactly what your gauge is like... I did that and know that the DTE is right + 10 miles, put another way I have another 10 miles after DTE reads zero...

P1sses me off though that the gauge never says more >110... I'd love it to say 220 or something like what's really left in the tank...

Quite so, when I ran mine dry on the M6 I had no extra fuel with me - but when the bike conked out I'd just turned onto a service area slip road - only had to push about 50 yards. Computer said I still had about 20 miles left in the tank...:D Since the s/w update, it's now almost spot on, just slightly pessimistic, which is the way I like it.

Yes and no. Could be better, but my previous R1200GS only gave me the range once the fuel light had come on, so it's an improvement for me.

There was a recall to check out the Brake caliper bolts think it was to check
the torque ?

These recalls are really old. I knew about them over a year ago.

I actualy called Cannon BMW on Saturday to see if i can have the updates carried out with my next service (in about 1000 miles)
it turns out the letter was standard typo (see first thread above) the only things that apply to my bike the F65 800GS is the fuel sensor and radiator hose (other bitts listed must be another GS:nenau) so as none safety issues will be carried out with the next service.
But maybe it would pay people just to check with there dealer!!

Had my fuel sensor replaced in the summer. Grabbed a can of fuel and ran until dry. Trip showed 2 miles remaining. Not bad I'd say.

But....

Full tank shows range anywhere between 95 and 120 miles - erm, no.

Don't suppose you noticed the > (greater than) symbol? ... no I don't know why it works this way either!
 
My understanding is that the compact/squashed shape of the tank means that they can't put in a fuel sensor that reads top to bottom. So they only read the bottom two thirds of the tank and use computer logic to calc the rest base upon consumption... hense > greater than sign.
