My 2001 GS is now on its second rearlamp housing, and I've only done approx 200 miles since buying it secondhand.

The first housing fell apart, it took me hours to get the seized nuts off. I bought a new part from Motorworks. Not too impressed with a cheap plastic assembly but BMW part, so I fitted it, bit tricky.

Now that ones fallen apart, lens screw fixtures just fell apart and now the main mounting bolts fell off the main housing.

Now bike is in shed again, cor my old Yammy SR500 was more reliable and that vibrated big time !!!.

Is this normal for 650GS parts, I know its a 650 single but I expected more life than 75 miles from the BMW part.

Anyone tried the Touratech LED assembly, is it better made than this BMW rubbish.

I feel a letter to BMW is in order, got to get to Beaulieu Motorcycle World and maybe check out a new bike, don't think its gonna be another BM after this !!!!!!! :nenau :nenau

I wouldn't diss the GS that easily. Bits fall off my bike too its done 40k miles(2000 Dakar model). But... the things that fall off are the ones that I havent bothered tightening properly since the last tinkering or servicing session. I would imagine that since the parts you mention are plastic, you wouldn't want to over tighten them (or keep them in direct sunlight hehe).
It is also well documented that the rear assembly falls off when off-roading but the issue was fixed by a bolt on jobby that touratech came up with.
When I let my bike idle I can see the rear light shaking like hell and the number plate holder and all flapping considerably. As far as I know nothing has been changed since the previous owner datataged the lot and I haven't changed any plastics in 15k miles.

Give us a little more info on the bike and we might be able to tell ya more back.
You should know though that the engines are considered bombproof since they were originally developed for light aircraft:rob
