The original carburated Funduro was BMWs top seller for years - about 35% of their sales were BMW badged Aprillas for a good few years.
The current singles are no where near as popular , according supremo Hendrik Von Kuenheim in a recent interview with Alan Cathcart.
It is this search for a volume seller to support the 1200 GS which is taking them back to an everyday motorcycle.
Hopefully if they get it made in China it will get decent quality Eastern electrics in stead of the crap they are fitting right now.
I could never understand how a cheap crappy $A12000- four seat Korean car could have faultless and bulletproof fuel injection, while a $A16,000- single cylinder bike surged , stalled , wouldnt start or ran poorly for no apparent reason.
FWIW I have had a run on the new 650 twin and I like my old single better - when it was going it was my all time favorite little bike.
Hopefully the new Chinese bike will be a step up in quality at a lower price , and end up the volume seller that BMW are searching for.
