I have a 2004 twinspark F650 with AHO (automatic headlights on), which I'd like to change so I can choose whether or not to have the headlights on. Does anybody know how easy this is to do? Do the pre-2004 models have a headlight switch and if so could I just fit this switchgear to my bike?

I also have heated grips - I don't know if this would make any difference.

pre 04 heated grips have separate switch on a plastic plate mounted on the handlebar bolts.

i have fitted switchgear from post 04 with the integral heated grip switch to a 2000dakar.
i needed to change a conector block they were different sizes, works though :D

Even the early 650GS's have lights ALWAYS ON and no switch

SSOOO

Not this GS Dakar !! :thumb only a wee side lamp :D
Have you thought about perhaps locating the live wire going to the bulb, cutting it and putting a switch in line? :nenau
Swiches - love 'em

That would be the only way forward. you need a pretty high rate switch though as the lights on the F650 arent switched via relay.

You will need to put the new switch in the feed to the dipswitch rather than the headlight wires.A 55w bulb only draws 4.5amps at 12v so the switch capacity won't be difficult to achieve.
