F650GS top boxes

Hi
Does anyone know if there's any difference between BMW top boxes for the 650GS ie does one for a pre 2004 model fit a post 2004 model?
Do they fit the rack without an adapter plate?
Fancy one for the 04 Dakar I've just bought.
Anyone got one they don't want?

Hi there Geoff... welcome to the nuthouse

The pre 2004 bikes wanted an adapter plate fixing to the rear rack, 2004 on (twin sparks) the top boxes fitted straight on... I think the top boxes are the same in bothcases.

Apart from the little plastic inserts for either side of the rack. They use a couple of self tapping screws, cost a few squid & stop the box rattling like a rattly thing on National Rattle Day.

Oh yes, "keying" the locks to match your ignition key is a fun way to spend an hour or so! I got the instructions from www.f650.co.uk .

There is a box on fleabay at present.

Thanks for that. My mate just bought a standard 650Gs and I did notice it had some inserts on either side of the rack which my similarly aged Dakar doesn't have. Any idea where I'd get some from?
And yes... I'd seen the one on fleabay, hence my intial question.
