I recently traded my 01 dakar for a R1200GS for various reasons mostly because the hand brake would come along on most organised rides and the weight of her and luggage was a bit much for the Dakar. The R1200GS is a nice bike with a heap of power but overall a slower bike as it is not as friendly on tight country roads. Before I traded the 650 I had an interesting go against an R1200GS on a tight road and left him for dead, he would pull some distance back on the straights but struggled to match the 650 in corners. Had it not been for the hand brake I would have brought another 650 and if BMW ever bring out the rumoured 850 twin F series I will trade the 1200 in an instant. I had a fuel pump failure and a rear shock fail and both were replaced under warranty but apart from that the bike performed faultlessly.

Cheers
Peter

850 F series, I have always said that a Dakar with the 850 engine would be a fantastic bike. Is this on the cards?
