Hi all!, i have recently returned from a nice camping trip up to the peak district with a few friends of mine and i just wanted to report my MPG as i was pretty impressed!
I was on my F800 Gs and on the way up i achieved 67.8, that's with motorway cruising at 60-65 plus some "progressive riding" through the peaks!, oh and some camping gear in my top box. (tent, water, food, cooking stuff, roll mat and sleeping bag! We had a great time there and the weather was perfect!, couldnt believe it was march!
So then it was time to set off for my return journey to London with motorway speeds of 65-70, so when i had to fill up near central London i found that my Mpg was 68.9!
Overall i was really impressed!, i haven't had my F8 that long and i am really impressed by her. I previously had a xtz660z tenere, triumph tiger 955i, honda dominator an a 1150 gs adventure and this is by far the best of them all for what i need her for!

It would be interesting to hear what other people are experiencing!

I have the 650gs twin and last year on a trip from Scotland down to Devon, Somerset and Cornwall 2 up with kit I was getting 65 mpg. :)

Andy.

On my 650 twin, I get about 75 miles per Imperial gallon at 70-75 mph. On one tour, where we were held to 45-50 mph for a tank (it was through Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l Parks), I got an incredible 93 mpig!

One other thing, unlike the 800 variant, the 650 gets that on regular gas.

Yeah, I'm happy with it. :beerjug:

69 mpg is normal for my F800GS. It has been lower when riding into strong winds, and has been higher on a long tour.
I have heard of people getting low 50s and I cannot imagine how they must be riding.
I was interested to find my friend averaged 61 mpg on his 2010 GS1200 on our last run out (checked tankful to tankful), so the high mpg results may be due to my gentle riding style.

Bearing in mind my F800GS is restricted, thus making the bike work harder i get around 59 -61 MPG on the motorway at about 75-80. Although the wind on the way to University has been quite bad lately and my precise consumption on the on-board computer goes to as low as 51 but the average still remains above 58.

In terms of fuel consumption i think they are one of the best. :thumb

Is it me? I have ridden bikes all my life and I couldnt tell you what the MPG was let alone 68.9 not 68.8 or 69!!!!! I have only ever run out once.

Thats where BMW technology comes in and tells you exactly your average MPG and your current. :D

Yeah its you. Keeping an eye on your consumption is a good way to monitor the bike as a whole. COnsumption gone up? You have a problem somewhere...

I'm showing 61 over the last 10,000 miles. Use it mostly for a hoon commute to work and back - 65 smiles round trip through the Cotswolds. :thumb2

65mpg average over the 5k miles I've had it.
Best 72mpg. Worst 59mpg
As Dave Ett has said, use it as an indicator of the machines running health.

I had an 800 on hire in Austria three years ago and two up it never dropped below 68 mpg in the 5 days I had it on hire

What sort of increase would tell you you had a problem?

I got mine at 1 year old, and the first few tanks went at 46 - 48mpg (well it was new!). Since then it has steadily climbed. Most of my riding is with a bunch of police riders on 1200GS's (so not exactly slow). I haven't reset my computer for about 2 years, and it seems to average 58mpg, which is about 10mpg better than the 1200's.
