Does anyone do a larger tank for the 2013 on F800 GS.

I know there is the adventure but looking to change an ordinary F800 for long distance.

I know Touratech make a tank for 2012 models.

Another question

Any major issues with the 2012 bikes that were improved with later models

Seems like a lot of trouble when you can go overland to the Nord Kapp, Morocco, Atlas Mountains, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan with the standard tank with no problems whatsoever. Where the hell are you going? Best of luck with your trip Karlp :thumb

Fair comment

Trip will be Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru.

Already done Chile and know that fuel stations are quite spread out. I have seen a Harley run out of fuel in the middle of the desert.

Could take containers but want to distribute the weight a bit morre

I could just take my GSA but toying with other ideas

There again I could be talking total bollocks and the std F800 is ok
 
I have had a f800 St and know they are good for 240+ miles of brisk commuteing. My f800 gsa is good for 340+ but it's not really nesessarsy. I just got it to save filling up too often. Laziness on my part. I would have thought that 200 miles in one hit would be enough. Whatever solution you go for to increase range is going to be expensive. It might be better to see if the adventure tank would fit although it would mean different tubular for the panniers. JJH

Sue (Gracie on here) and myself were/are thinking of South America next, for at least three or four months, but the dream is fading at the mo, for a variety of reasons (New dogs and both going uphill to seventy maybe?) but nevertheless the idea and the dream is tick rocking away in the background :D

T'is a lot of trouble and expense to get a bigger tank in to the F800's. Couple of 2L plastic 'cans on the panniers, and a couple more on special frames somewhere near/on the crash bars would be my idea. I made this up for the likkle X-Country ... not had to use it yet ;)

The Harley was on the main tarmac roads but in the Atacama Desert - me not explaining fully
 
Forget the expensive tanks and just get yourself some fuel containers. Rotopax are good, they come in different sizes. I think the smallest is about 4L, they're a little more expensive than a standard 2L Touratech Fuel can but they're more rugged. Or just get yourself a regular throw-away can (or a couple of 2L coke bottles) just for the stretches when you need them. Do your research on your intended route and see what the longest distance is without somewhere to get fuel - I doubt you'll need more than 300 miles worth of fuel, which you could easily do on an F800GS with 2x2L spare fuel cans.
 
+1 for Adventure Spec.
They do a thing called the 'Camel Tank' that fits in behind the right hand pannier and gives an extra 7 liters.
Times the 13 miles a liter I get commuting by 7 and you get another 90 miles, plus it fits in a way that doesn't drill into the standard fuel tank but connects to the breather pipe to draw the fuel through.
It might be that £400 sounds like a lot - but the first time you find that the next fuel stop is 290 miles away you will be glad you spent the money. (And it is much, much cheaper than a GSA :augie)
I'm going to fit one before I set off to ride the Pan American Highway from top to bottom.

It is Bolivia and Paraguay that bother me regarding fuel

Almost embarrassed to admit that I had looked for a similar solution - found this http://justgastanks.com/index.php?cPath=4_340_878 which is similar in concept to the underslung tank noted above (appears to drain down to the main tank under gravity), a bit cheaper, and still allows for luggage over the top. This gets my vote for a semi fixed option, although I accept that 2 Coke bottles (other brands available!) is a tad cheaper. The Rotapax is priced in between, and does allow you to more easily help someone else along - mounting + water + fuel = c£175.
 
The F650/700gs gets better gas mileage, handles better and runs smoother on lower octane gas. It won't be at home on single track, but with upgraded shocks and springs will take you just about anywhere. You do lose the spoked wheels. Just a thought.

Don't buy a over engineered Rotopak and carry it for thousands of useless miles. Buy a cheap plastic gas can, use a wine bladder or coke bottles when you need them and discard. Replace when you face the next stretch with few gas stations.

If your 800 GS will do in the region of 240 miles from a tank you have nothing to worry about.

I have a standard 1200 GS and can only get about 200 miles out of a tank, so I will run out long before you do and will be on your back seat going to fill up my coke bottle :augie

Touratwat do a very large tank that sits up front where a tank should be used in addition to the standard tank. I don't know the price but if you kind out please let us know. JJH

I had looked this up before Christmas in the TT german catalogue - think it came in at about 1600 euros unpainted, so I quickly went off that idea!
