This is a question for those that have gone more than 5000 miles in a single trip.

Bike is ready and a few changes made.

So what essential spares are advised to take specific for this bike, what parts are questionable.

There are approx four dealers over the 7000 mile trip

Seriously .... a good service and go :thumb

There are no 'must haves' apart from your state of mind ...

.... and there's nothing that can't be sorted out there on the road ;)

:beerjug:

Ps .... I did leave my card details with my friendly dealer so that anything required could be DHL'd to me. Sods Law dictates that whatever spares you carry then it will be something else that will be required. Maybe just a couple of inner tubes and that's it :thumby:

Ok thanks

I am very familiar with motorcycle touring having done quite a few European yours of approx 2500 miles. This has been done on a GSA.

I am interested if there is anything specific about the F800 GS as it is a new bike to me.

Suspension has been completely changed
Tubeless wheels
Desierto screen

I know Micky has done some long tours so he should know

Seems you have it sorted :thumb

Full Ride Report please with the ubiquitous photographs of food :D

Chain and bearings (wheels and Race) can sometimes be a bit crap if they're still OEM, if in doubt change before you leave: SKG bearings and a DID VXGB chain minimum. When you upgraded the suspension did you use an Indy top bolt kit... some have had there's bend under hard use. When I upgraded my suspension I put the beefed up Indy kit in too (see ADVrider).

Tubeless wheels make repairing punctures easy, this will probably be the thing that will hold you up, so a stop 'n' go pocket tyre plugger kit with a electric pump is a good idea but spare tubes will sort you out in an emergency, and for that you'l need minimal tools. I wouldn't bother with an extensive tool kit or spares generally if their are dealers/mechanics nearby (for example the fuel pump and ring antenna are talked about but are mostly ok on the F800GS).

The bike is an all round bullet, as long as it's fit and serviced when you leave it'll keep you moving. If things go tits up try to look at it as an opportunity, that's when the adventure begins.

Thanks

I did not sort the top mounting bolt but have now sourced/bought the top mount strengthening bit

Possible one of those accelerator lever things to save your wrists. You can use lighter throttle hand and rest more.

Came in handy for me, less pressure build up.

Oh yer, ride reports too, with a ton of pictures!! (as everyone has already stated)

Tubeless wheels?
How did you get those to fit an 800gs?

I despair about my tubed tyres, can't use any of the plugger things so it's a major operation to repair a puncture..

Hi Karlp

Sorry to butt into your thread but did you ever find those panniers frames for the 1200gs that you wanted to sell?
Cheers
