I have a farkling idea and was wondering.......

If any of you ladies and Gentleman, know of any F800 GS rear wheel available for sale, even if its damaged, the Hubb is a good enough start for me but a whole one better :thumb2.

any leads or Ideas apreciated so I can set the farkling wheel :blast into Motion:D

Thanks , Dean :aidan

not a trike have you tried filtering on them and enjoying the twisties :D

The plan in thought is to have a spare set of wheels as in wire for the f650GS twin, for a more Rugged Roads kinda look.

so if you here of a wheel going spare so to speak. :thumb2

:D

Imagine this with TKC's

this is my '650'... now i call it a 798, with a wire front 19" wire wheel from a 650 single and a rear 800 hub with an excel rim wired on by Woody's Wheel Works.

I've also put 800 side panels on.

cheers,
Mark

Hi mark thanks for posting that:thumb2 it looks as cool as a penguins fridge or cooler :thumb :D

Thats exactly what I want to do with the wheels, I new on paper it would work as in part numbers of axels spindles and brake disks match by BMW part numbers exactly :thumb2 but did not know if anyohe had done actualy had it done. (yours is the first I have seen there must be more out there) I'm nearly half way there as have a F650gs front Hub on route to me :D the missing piece of the farkeling jigsaw is the F800 rear, wheel or Hub.

Was there any complications that you know of? the only one i can see in theory is the f650 GS (single) front is a 100 section compared to the twins 110!

I think the rear of the F800GS is same as F650GS Twin except the section 150 the 8 and my original 140 although i'm booted with a 150 tire at the Moment which works Fine :thumb2

Where did you get your Rear hub from?, any contacts over your side of the pond? none here yet I could buy new but a costly exercise but may be the route I take.

your side panels look good I'm keeping to the original and will call it..........

The Bespoke F650 GS twin.

Hey Dean,

The front from the f650funduro single was a direct bolt on. All i had to do was turn it around so the disc was on the other side. If you got an 800 rear wheel it would be a direct bolt on too. All the same except it has a 42 tooth rear sprocket which works out great. I've been running a 150 rear on my cast rim for ages and it's not a problem. You can run a 140 or 150 on either bike with a 140 being better for off road and 150 being better for road.

woodyswheelworks.com is the place to go for a custom rear 800 hub and laced rim. Luckily he had an 800 hub on hand and upgraded the wheel bearing (stock is crap on the 800) and laced an excel rim on it (stock rim is crap on the 800). On top of the 800 stock rim being made of butter it really is a bit too wide if you're going to use it for anything off pavement... A BMW middle of the road approach considering lots of 800 owners won't take their bikes off road.

I also think Twalcom sells complete built rear wheels. 18" and 17" I think.

If you want to switch up your decals after you've done your transformations check out my site at www.adventuredecals.com. Plus Humvee on your side of the pond has top notch stock replacements.

cheers,
Mark

is it possible to put a 2nd disc on the 650:confused:

For the cost of figuring that out (which there might not be too much point), you're better off putting on a whole f800 front end on, or a KTM950 front end.

There's someone on my side of the pond that has taken bits from an f800 and the front end of a KTM and put it together on the 650 twin base. His call sign is 'LukasM' and you can see his progress on this link:

hope this helps.

is it possible to put a 2nd disc on the 650:confused:

Hi Wal,

The question is Why would you want to have a second ? Is it a looks thing? as I do think it looks good for some reason 2 look good:thumb2

Yes, but no but .................................................

Yeah i know the 800's have them but question is why do you need it I realise that you could probably execute a better stoppy with two, but thats not me at best I would get indegestion, worse I would be over the bars

Think of the savings on the servicing over the years :D less pads, less discs :thumb

A lot of the 800 girlies here like a bit of off road it is there kind of ride, maybey some would argue that most of there riding is off road but I ask do they think they put there 800 through more punishing off road than this sort of bike.......

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/bmw/bmw_r900gs_rally 99.htm

90 BHP :augie

Maybey on road its more efficient, but personaly I think one is enough it seems to work fine well for me it does i dont go much over 90 at times , generally always ride upright hauling my 15 Stone leave a big enough gap for stopping.

Other than it looking the part, why would you need 2 for 71 BHP.

Is it like wanting 2 willies, yeah I can understand 5 because your pants would fit like a glove:blast

mostly idle curiosity, but 2 does look better i have to admit, i think its the front end of the 650 that makes it look a bit frumpy, (without offending anyone) plus 2 up and loaded and being a bit naughty may need another disc

Yes like I said and you seem to agree its a look thing:thumb2.

That I think Wal is the big hitting the nail on the Head the looks, it just goes to show in certain instances because something looks better it does not necessarily mean that it actualy is better:thumb

the main differences are at the front end, front wheel, twin discs, upside down forks, tank and air intake. as you probanly know after that they share.

many of the same components :comfort

Fully loaded I have no room for a pillion I just do not know how the 800 girlies do it maybe they just have smaller pants :nenau

Yep its one disc for me works just fine :beerjug:

yep, no need for 2 if 1 is enough, just a symmetry thing i suppose, think i'll just settle for the extra willy (you wouldnt happen to have a link would you:rolleyes:)
yours is fairly loaded in the pics in Switz, how long were you away for,
this is (now sold) my Versys outside Frankfurt on my way to Switz (Basel) to see a mate, this is my 1 week Euro quickie luggage, its enough if you dont mind being a bit smelly at the end:) lots more options for BM luggage tho

I was at the sam manicom (4th) book launch yesterday (nowtheres a man to inspire travell) at the Ace Cafe, had not read any of his books so bought the first, and won the second in a raffle.

whilst there i parked next to this twin dicsc and wire wheels how cool is this? :thumb2
