F800GS Drinking a lot of fuel.

My handbook says the tank is 16 litres, with >4 litres of reserve.
That's 12 liters + 4 reserve official volume. BMW tanks are usually bigger than claimed my 06 rt is rated at 27 liters but I can put 29 in my GSA often took 36 liters for a claimed 33 that is at different garages JJH

Im trying this time. No uni so i don't have to worry about running out on motorway. It currently said 108 miles after dropping 3 bars of fuel :/ lol. Average MPG is 48!!!!!!! and average speed is 18mph :O

At the moment my trip is at 85 miles, so if i don't do over 200 miles i'm going to be mad. :censor:

But i shouldnt be doing 48mpg even restricted thats poor. I should be in theory using less fuel as i have less HP, although i am working the engine harder it should compensate. Damn restricter!

All tanks are bigger than the stated capacity.
A tank should never be filled to the brim, the tank has an air space, it is possible that different garages and different pumps will fill the tank more or less efficiently.
This means sometimes it is possible to put more than the stated maximum in the tank, it does depend on the lean angle at filling and the speed the pump flows.

Guys - Instead of posting a new thread. Can i ask how much you can get for a excellent condition original exhaust. Has literally no marks due to Akrapovic exhaust fitted, all packaged up when i brought the bike of someone on here and feel its just a waste sitting in the garage as its never going back on.

Any ideas if its worth selling/ is a market for them and how much?

Cheers

Ben

I doubt your standard exhaust is worth more than about £75. The Akro's probably worth over £300. I'd keep the standard until you want to sell the bike. The Akro won't make your bike worth any more when you sell it. Put the standard back on, then sell the Akro.

Ran mine dry in the middle of the desert in Turkmenistan at midday 40C and no spare petrol can...the miles to go got to zero but did another 30 miles til it died in total 263 miles from full to empty which is over 70mpg but then we weren't doing much more than 50/60mph. I can regularly get 60mpg on a combination of local Mway riding.
To get max range yes you do need to fill up on the centre stand (assuming you've got one) Once the pump switches off automatically you can then dribble in nearly another litre to get the fuel level nearly to the top of the filler tube. The filler cap seal is efficient enough not to let any fuel out when the bike is full and leant over.

Surely it's the sidestand? That makes the filler the highest point on the tank?

Yeah i have been told to fill it on sidestand for most amount of fuel ;/

Yup ... side stand and you'll get more fuel in, plus it's just plain easier :thumb

I did 279 miles from fill up to push, and it took 17.2 litres

:beerjug:

The manual states fill on side stand, I would also change fuel to another production.
I lost 4 MPG when I used Texaco compared to my normal 65+ with Esso.

I try to only use Shell or Sainsburys Super Unleaded as it only costs 2p more :) Still though only getting about 200 with this restriction :blast
