Does anyone know the width, diameter and rise of the 800 handlebars? This new Honda of mine has the tiniest handlebars known to man and I know that if I can swap them for something a little wider and with some more rise then I wont be reaching forward so much.

cheers

860 mm wide -> 28mm diameter -> and they are 60mm high (from the base of where the bars are attached to the top of the handlebars.)
I'll let you do the converting thing :D

Cheers

I got a slightly different diameter when I measured mine.
22mm at outer ends
28.5mm in the middle.

Curiously, the imperial measurements are almost exact as well, 7/8", and 1 and 1/8" (that looks odd but I don't know how to make fractions display in a smaller font :blast).

Glad to hear you're back on two wheels again. What's the new bike?

Don't worry Bernard, I'm one of the metric boys who grew up after 1972 :D

I'm now riding Mort's CB500. He very kindly washed it before he sold it to me so I feel a little bad that I sanded all the paint off :augie. It's getting the satin black treatment. I've done the bodywork, forks, will do the footpeg hangers and ultimately the engine. Would like to tweak the ergonomics a little. Lower the pegs, raise the seat and bring the bars back a little and it will be much more comfortable then.

I know feck all about this particular CB500, but I guess it must be an improvement on the one I had - a 1974 500/4, probably a bit of an old tank compared to yours.

Thought it was great at the time, though. Although it was a replacement for a Norton Commando, so almost anything would have seemed pretty good. :augie
