Bordering I know but here goes.
Second fill since I got it. Dealer demo with 3000 km aprox.
439 Kms=274 miles light comes on and count up commences.
41 km =25 miles later I fill up at exactley 480.1km=300miles
I put 24.75 liters in=5.45 gallons imp.= 55 mpg.
Not an exact science but I filled at the same pump in the same way at the same temperature milomiter (kms converted) is known to be correct bla bla.
What is interesting is that 300 miles per tank is possible at normal motorway speeds and when the light comes on you have 25 miles to find a garage. Given that my 12gsa regularly held 36 liters ( bmw claim 33) my f800st took 17.5 liters (16claimed) what will my f800gsa take? Before anyone questions the petrol pump I use a few different pumps and other people have had the same experience JJH

I never managed to get more than about 31 litres in my 1200 adventure but I regularly get more the 24 in my 800 adventure.

The computer thing says 59 mpg?
I normally work on 300 per tank but I think I get more. I have done 40 miles with the reserve light on. I wouldn't recommend you try it though.

Oh I'll try and I'll let you know how I get on. 300 miles the norm. And here was me thinking I was doing well. JJH

I'm not pushing motorway speeds in Africa, but regularly get >250 miles for 16l. The computer mostly reads over 70mpg which I'm happy with. I'll hopefully not need to find the empty range, but do find the 1/2 tank graph starts to descend after 3/4 of a tank is used.

Agree with you on 3/4 tank the gauge then wakes up. Filled up today = 53 mpg mostly motorway. Tha average speed thing says 78 kmh. Filled up at 465 Kim's. JJH

Still keeping an eye on mileage seems to have settled at 53 now at 9500 Kim's JJH

I'm only on my first full fill up so will let you know but ave MPG showing currently 63mpg.
Dealer demo 400 on clock.

I have done 5000 miles on mine now ans done some decent runs on it.
I get about 350 per tank. When I fill it up it's usually about 23/24 ltrs.

I wish I wish my mileage is mostly commuting on motorways. I enjoy my daily 90 kms sometimes 7 days a week. Hail rain shine snow or frost. Doing it a few years now. JJH

My 2010 R1200 GSA's fuel readings have always been inaccurate, usually 4mpg more than actual! I have often filled up my bike when the range was down to single figure! Range is more reliable than mpg. I would say GSA is a lot more thirstier than GS if ridden hard.

I would say GSA is a lot more thirstier than GS if ridden hard.

I've been traveling across Africa with a 2006 R1200GSA and when ridden sympathetically and economically it uses 15% more fuel than my F800GSA. When ridden hard/faster, this increases to about 25% or more...

To start, i was also travelling with a 2010 R1200GSA who was using 25% or more fuel in all conditions - i'd have expected this to use less than the '06 model. This demonstrated that the rider and riding style has a big impact on the fuel consumption...

Ok a long overdue update some figures. 57-59 mpg 340 miles is the most I have traveled on one thank. 27 litres is the most I have got in and probably the most interesting figure is 50 miles after fuel light comes on. 11,000 miles aprox. I'm putting new tyres on tonight tourences not exp rear tyre is abasulety and totally worn out about 1000 miles ago. New chain at 8,000 aprox. New one is lasting better. JJH

Ditto, 340 to a tank but only 23.5ltr to fill. Ave same at 57-59 miles and can't seem to hit 60 over a full tank range. Most I've risked so far is 30 on fuel light when I got the 23.5ltr in.
Although I only have 3k on the clock have had to adjust chain at 2k but tyres seem to be wearing very well.
Talking to a guy only yesterday who replaced OE tyres straight away as couldn't get on with them tracking. Not a problem I've found.

2 weeks ago bought a second hand F650GS twin (798cc) with 6k on it for my wife, last week we did 1200 miles and cannot believe the fuel economy. I know she is only 9st but! It was ridden in a fairly spirited fashion around the Yorkshire Dales for the week. The fuel computer shows an overal average of 75mpg and on refuelling the amount of fuel put in confirms it.
She also finds it great to ride having ridden a Sportster for the last 6 years.

With the update notifications, i did some tests today.
100-110kmh (60-70mph) i get 22.9 km/l / 64.7mpg (299 miles/20.9l)
90-100kmh (55-60mph) i get 24.5km/l / 69.2mpg (230 miles/15.0l)
70-80kmh (45-50mph) i get 27.0km/l / 76.3mpg (270miles/16l)

This is after 31k miles, so just run in

You guys are harder on your bike than i've been.
New chain and sprockets at 22k miles (front sprocket almost circular!)
Front and read breakpads at 22k
Steering and rear wheel bearings at 18k
Pirelli Scorpions replaced at 6k when i arrived in Africa
Heidenau K60's replaced at 24k with quite large splits and 4mm tread
